I really want Sytrus and i absolutely HATE the idea of sending my credit card details through the 'net.
Why not buy the boxed XXL version from my trusty local dealer INCLUDING the lifetime upgrade fee?
Is this option so "difficult"?

If I remember right, the reason why they don't include the lifetime upgrade on boxed copies is because of the store's and packager's cut. The boxed version would have to be more expensive to include that.

For what it's worth, recent articles on Wired have shown that the vast majority of identity theft comes from physical information (unshredded trash), social engineering, etc, and not sniffing internet packets. I've bought probably fifty or sixty different software products over the internet, through VShare (who FLS uses), ShareIt, PayPal, RegSoft, Kagi, etc and never had a problem with any of them as far as questionable billing, etc. Likewise for e-shopping through Amazon, BookPool, etc.

It may bother you, but it's probably pretty secure.

well, the thing is.........

if you buy it from you local dealer, it's your local dealer who get's the vast majority of the money. He has to provide a store, he has to ship the boxes from wherever, he needs to pay staff and he needs to make a profit. he's buying it from Imageline at rock bottom, so Imageline can't afford to offer you lifetime updates.

If you buy it from Imageline, they get *all* the cash and can therefore fund their support operation and report a profit

You need to loosen up your arse about using your credit card online. Millions, nay gazillions of people do it every day. You'll probably find your credit card has protection against fraud, too. Loosen up and live a little

After being all Mac for the last 5 years I just got myself a brand new Win LapTop and man the FLdemo is very sweet!!!

Dont think I can hold out much longer...

Because to to pay the lifetime upgrade fee. You will have to send your credit card´s details thru the net.

Yeah. I mean, you go to a restaraunt, use your CC there. Now anyone that works at the place can look at your receipt, write down your info, and use it online. And especially the one who took your card, they can take the extra 3 "secret special" numbers off the back.

Just make sure the site you're buying from has a lock (using https), and you're pretty good to go at that point.

Was and still am using - Cubase SX, Remix, Tracktion, N.I. Komplete2 & other bits n bobs.

Had a PC years ago (Soundblaster awe64 gold days ) and all me mates have PCs. I watched FruityLoops from v1.4 and was always impressed.

I think Fruity & SynthEdit made me realize I was missing out on a big chunk of innovation and free wierd synths/fx (not to mention all the wierd & wonderful apps like Granulab & CoagulaLite).

Happy to say both machines seem to work hand in hand.

Well I broke down lastnight and ordered Fruity and BeatCreator!!!

I'll let yall know how I get on and I'll no doubt have questions

I think I remember JMC saying another problem with offering lifetime updates with the boxed version was delivering the updates, which would have to be mailed out on CD to all of the users who purchased the boxed version.

Well I'm still demoing FL Studio and I'm still impressed. I was originally thinking of getting Reason to use as a synth rack in Tracktion, but I may be in the process of changing my mind. FL is a lot cheaper, that's for sure.

A question: Is there a fast way to do shuffles/swing in the piano roll? There are lots of other tools, but I can't find this.

I've had FLS for about a year but haven't really used it extensively.

I've been using SONAR for years as my primary host but most of my projects are 70-80% sequenced/programmed and 30-20% audio.

The programming/sequencing features in SONAR, well, suck - not to put too fine a point on it.

I just bought the FL-Producer upgrade so I can fully test the full product.

I've been playing with REASON - which is really fantastic in so many ways. But without a way to seemlessly integrate external audio I don't see that as viable. Plus, I'd be more-or-less tossing all of my VSTi/VSTs.

I'll give FLS a real shot and see if I can use it as my primary host. It pains me to turn my back on SONAR4 but I've got to give this a try.

Not on my music PC so I can't give you exact directions, but I think using the groove templates under "Quantize..." in the piano roll should effectively give you the shuffle/swing you need. I realize it's not quite the same thing, but it's close at least. Lots of great grooves come with FLS too. Can be great for spurring new creative ideas.

IMO, you really just can't beat the FLS piano roll.

Here's some handy piano roll shortcuts for those demoing the program. These all use the pencil tool (which is the only one I ever use).

Ctrl+Drag: Select box

Shift+Drag (selected notes): Clones the selected notes and drags them.

Shift+Drag (without notes): Cut tool (to cut notes)

Shift+Resize (selected notes): Time stretches or compresses the selected notes (easy way to turn a 4 bar melody into an 8 bar melody, for example).

And I'm sure I'm missing others. But that's what I use on a regular basis.
