Free, very simple VSTi sequencer?

I have a friend who bought the Korg Legacy pack thinking it had a stand-alone sequencer. He doesn't have anything budgeted for more software and really he just wants to record midi, no audio, and he just wants to use this one plugin. Any suggestions?

I'd suggest he find a copy of the CM-Muzys if possible. I don't know if the Tracktion 1 free deal is still available or not.braj wrote:I have a friend who bought the Korg Legacy pack thinking it had a stand-alone sequencer. In the "not free but under $100" realm, there's also Cakewalk Home Studio 2 (think "Sonar Jr").

Kristal. it's free.
and Computer Music magazine gives ComputerMuzys, a very competent sequencer, just for the money you pay for the mag.

I have a copy of the CM CD somewhere, I just can't find it
Kristal look cool though, it hosts VSTis? That may just be perfect. Is it easy to use? This guy's rather old. 65.

ah I thought Kristal hosted VSTis. then go definitely for CMuzy's, it's a very good sequencer for the money (5 euros)

here go the features of Kristal Audio Engine:
16 audio tracks
32 Bit floating point audio engine
44.1 to 192 kHz sample rate*
Downmix to 16/24/32 Bit audio files
3-band parametric EQ &
2 VST insert slots per channel
3 VST master effect slots
ASIO low latency audio driver support
4 Kristal PlugIn slots
Load/Save Kristal project files
Supported file formats: WAVE, AIFF, FLAC, OGG Vorbis
so it seems it DOES host VSTs after all...

I'm a little confused as to what you mean by plug in, but I assume that you simply want a Midi sequencer. (Kristal is audio only.)
I actually researched this for a friend recently. I found two free midi sequencers:
Jazz++ and Anvil Studio, here are the links:
http://www.anvilstudio.com/
http://www.jazzware.com
Can't vouch for either.

Could some of you please read the starting post of this thread?
This would be more helpful.
For instance: are JAZZ++ and Anvil able to load Korg Legacy Collection synthesizers???
