Is the producer edition worth the extra bucks? To date, Ive gotten a lot of pleasant use out of the $100 version. I suppose more of a good thing would be better.

imo it's worth it...What is it now 60 bux? Where else can you get that much for 60 bux? Bear in mind that also includes free updates (if you buy online) for future PE versions. So not only do you get all the benefits of Producer for that 60 bux, you also get all future benefits of Producer for that same 60 bux....so you tell me, is it worth it?pummel wrote:Is the producer edition worth the extra bucks? The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

Get it! Awesome program, but here's my personal advice:Breakpete wrote:Just tried the demo of Fl Studio 5, and I have to say I was quite impressed. It has been ages since I gave FL a look (v3 or something), and it has certainly improved.
I'm trying to limit my purchasing of music software, but this version of FL is making it difficult
1. First by the Orion that I'm selling: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=73802
2. Buy FL Studio, and you'll really appreciate Imageline's master piece
And the thing about money: use it, it's replaceable!

I completely recommend it. The audio file support/recording, ASIO support, and integrated wave editor improve work flow. And automation envelopes? A must have! A very nice addition in FLS5. I say it is worth every penny (and more...)

I already own Orion Platinum and Tracktion, which is why I'm hesitant about getting anything new. I'm tempted though, so I'll give the demo a couple of days more before I decide.

There is no doubt with ImageLines lifetime free update policy, I started with 3 now have 5.0.1...all for nothing, and the features of FL Studio that it is an offer too good to pass up.Breakpete wrote:I already own Orion Platinum and Tracktion, which is why I'm hesitant about getting anything new. I've seen a lot of complaining about the FL GUI around this and other fora. Why is this? I think it's nice looking, although some things are a bit smallish.

Man, I bought the boxed......and wish I'd gotten the download (live and learn)
BUT!!!!!!! For 29 bones now I have the free updates......so that is cool.
You must get the producer version. If not things like this will happen....every time you try to .......let's say.....adjust the master volume you'll get a "this is only for producer" pop up...........so annoying.
It's more expensive now, I think 210 instead of 150.
I wanted sytrus......but it's just too intense on the system so I didn't jump on that bandwagon.

Not really : Producer Edition has alsways been $149. I guess you saw the suggested retail prices of the boxes in one of our adds.eyeknow666 wrote:It's more expensive now, I think 210 instead of 150.
If you're paying from outside the US it has even become about 40% cheaper in the last 2 years with the value of the $ dropping to almost nothing
See ya,

I know I'll get flamed but man, FLStudio is *hard* to figure out!
I love many of the features but so many of what I consider 'the basics' have really got me puzzled.
Recording audio. Where does it go? Fine, it's a WAV file that gets stuck in a directory OK, But then it's also a channel. I see the WAV form down in the audio-clips pane of the playlist editor but then it's also contained in a Sampler Channel?
For example - the latest "newstuff.flp" - I see 2 audio clips that appear contigous, but in the step-sequencer I see 11 audio-clip sampler channels? What's related to what? Is each sampler channel associated with a specific segment of the (apparantly) contigous audio clips in the playlist? It would appear so but the relationship isn't at all clear. How about a little right-click context menu help? I right clicked on the audio-clips in the playlist editor and I deleted them! WTF?
I must have spent 20 minutes trying to add a tempo change before I gave up. The help file was essentially useless (for this, and the audio recording, frankly). Searching looptalk yielded a few hits but damn if I could figure out how to actually *do* it. Silly me - thinking I would add a tempo-change marker in the playlist - ha!
And I can see it has been discussed to death and the IL folks are defensive about it but that skin! Sheesh! It's hideous! I wonder what their reticence is towards allowing skinning or (gasp!) just using the OS theme.
I'm not at all disputing that FLStudio is a fantastic tool but did they have to ignore *every* sequencer/host convention? I *want* to like it, I *want* to use it but it feels harder than non-euclydian geometry.

BC, what you see is not one continous audio channel, but a continous automation clip. There are two buttons on the left hand side of the audio/automation section of the playlist. Click the right one to view the audio clips. You will then see that there are indeed a lot of separate audio clips.
I haven't tried recording any audio, so i can't help you there.
My experience with FL is just different from yours I guess. I figured out most important things pretty much right away. It was different with Reason the first time I opened it, like "okaaay, so what do I have to do to get some sounds out of this?". I get it now though, it's simple. It was probably because I got used to software from the beginning, not hardware.
And the GUI/skin, once again someone dislikes it. I still don't get it. It gives me a futuristic, techy kinda feeling, which to me is good.
I'm getting closer to buying this thing each time I fire up the demo.

I've been heavy into digital audio since 1998 - none of this is new to me. Heck, I used one of the super-early version of "Fruity Loops" with N-Track Studio way back then (around '99, I guess).
I -get- Reason, it's overly complicated and the GUI elements look like they were designed in the mid 90's.
I can figure what I want to do in pretty much every piece of software *except* FLStudio. I know it's (mostly) me.

BC, I havent been using FL for very long either. I bought it at version 4.12 and used it mostly to make loops fo import into Live4. Its only recently (since FL5) that Ive started to really get into it.
Its funny because some things have been incredibly intuitive (and useful), such as import loops to slice, and using the step sequencer and piano roll while others such as using VSTi's multi-timbrally I cant seem to figure out at all.
What keeps me coming back is the power under the hood and that fact that Image-line is aware that they need updated tutorials and are even writing a book at this point. As a matter of fact the video tutorials are now online...have a look.....

We're all different, which is why some software will appeal to Joe while Ted wants something else.
I came from trackers, and FL is kind of like a horizontal tracker with piano rolls and independent track/pattern structure. I own Orion Platinum and have problems getting 100% comfortable with it. It is very good, but the workflow sometimes gets in the way of my creativity.

Thanks for the link, I had only seen the older tutorials. The power and efficiency keeps me intrigued as well.
