is recycle the only program that can ouput REX files?
or rx2 files (the new format)? i have some acidized drum loops that i'm looking to convert...but i don't think i need the full RECYCLE experience

It's not bad, last time I looked, and has quite a few new features. Supports Acid loops as well, so it may be able to convert them for you pretty easily.

Some software outputs REX format 1 including BeatCreator.
However, nothing but Recycle saves in the RX2 format.
