I must say, even if Reason never attracted me, the instant patch loading/preview thing is just great!
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

Post

Well i'm very impressed i have to say.

Puts the real power of the Combinator in perspective, looks like a fantatsic tool for sound design and electronica in general.

Ad being able to trigger patterns live looks great fun

Post

if i heard right, it sounded like the program is going to cost $500 new. :? isn't that i dramatic increase or am i wrong?

Post

No, that's about the same as before. Reason has always been overpriced imo.

Post

reason will cost 349 new...

Post

Man, I just lurve that Squarepusher thing he does in the end 8) How much to upgrade from 2.5 I wonder?

EDIT: just went to Propellerheads site. $129 to upgrade. Hmm...might have to wait.

Post

S_A_P, that's the price for 2.5 now. Then you will have to pay for the upgrade to v3. The full price will still be $499 or thereabouts.

Post

That's the upgrade price from 2.5 to 3.0... And the combinator is awesome...

(although some of the patches wiring is positively scary)

Post

interesting but that bloke really needs to learn how to pronounce "routeing"

I didn't hear anything that impressed me to be honest. The features look great and to somebody just starting it's probably a dream come true, but it's all about sound quality for me.

Post

Actaully I was always pretty impressed by the sound quality of reason. What makes me shy to it is that fact tha I have tons of VST that I love and can't use IN it. Coupled with the fact that rewire is a pain in the ass. (Oh yeah and no audio clip functionality built in besides a sample player).
The new features look good but XT is my combinator now and I haven't played live in a bout a year, but I suppose being able to switch/preview patches with out load-up time would be pretty dang useful if I did.

Post

"Nothing that impressed me"... huh? What have you been listening to, that I haven't heard... enlighten me!

Post

Awesome!

That's my new live setup;

Reason,laptop and controller that's it!

Post

Virtual studio's and "Live playing " are still not the best mates imho.

And in fact, I think it's normal.
For live playing there are specialised programs like Ableton Live, and to be honest, in the old days of heavy hardware synths, who could bring his complete hardware setup on stage?
