I don't have M-tron so I can't answer your question, but I did want to take this opportunity to say that I love the Chamberlin piano sound in the Tron Collection. I remember Squids raving about it when he put the collection together, and it truly does sound great. The mellow wobbly sound it has really does something to every piece that I stick it in.

Now I just need to find a way to incorporate those farm animal samples into my music . . . .

If you love Mellotrons then you might as well get it. But, it could be redundant depending on which sounds you use. Tough one. It's kind of fun to have both if you can afford it.

Hey Squids (or anyone else who knows),

while I'm at it, does the Mello Zone expansion tank offer anything your collection doesn't

Sure. It's pretty cool. Maybe not quite the same as Squids Tron and MTron but if you are a collector and what different takes on such a cool instrument...

I've got M-Tron, ST2xl, and SS2. I love M-Tron for realism. But after checking out the "Tron" section on SS2 I think they are spectacular! Taking stock M-Tron sounds (with no effects) and recording them them as MIDI tracks in my host (Cubase SL) doesn't offer a lot of "ambient" effect options. If I convert them from MIDI tracks to audio tracks then I open up possibilities. The patches that are in the "Tron" section of SS2 already have some great ambience built into the patches, and you can tweak effects in SS2 all day long. So I find myself grabbing SS2 more and more for tron stuff.

I do not own Squids Tron Collection so therefore cannot help you in a comparison with that. Sorry!

You'd probably like Squids Tron. I am thinking about bringing it back for a group buy on an eventual Squids Tron vol. 2 this year. It was a good one. But, anyway, I agree with you. I like having my Tron sounds in SS2 or ST2 to quickly process them and make it part of the patch.

if you want a close-to-real Mellotron sound - MTron.

If you want Melloton-ish sounds - Tron Collection.

My 2 cents.

Mellotron-ish? Both are still just samples of real Mellotrons. Maybe in terms of the look of the plug-in of course but the sound? It's as close to the real Mellotron sound as the MTron sonically.

Okay, let's see ... Philharmonik?... Squids Tron group buy? Dammit Squids, what do you think we all are, made of money? Just teasing! And let's not forget Studiophonik. Jeez (not you Kim) I'm gonna need a 12-step program very soon! Part of me wants to say SLOW DOWN and the other part is saying KEEP THEM COMING! I just bought a house and I'm really trying to be good here. Okay ... I can tell from this post that I'm in major need of therapy!

It's our job to keep it coming. I want this stuff to use in my music too. I've been making music with Sonik Synth 2 and it has been awesome. So fast. Yet, I've already thought of some improvements I can make with it just from working with it (and a tip: save combis of your multi-timbral set ups and organize them into song folders in your SS2Presets folder).

Philharmonik, Studiophonik, more trons... this is material that can really be put to good use.
