well
It's a matter of how you play the sounds. On version 1.2 the panel presets have been improved a lot!

Vangelis always used the presets
For the Vangelis "Hymn" sound select Guitar 1 and Bass ( set the latter to 16' )
For V brass a la Chariots of fire select Brass1 and 3

Jobson sounds deal much with high footages but they're quite simple sounds to obtain.

About the brilliance, that's a matter of waveform: on the original CS-80 the sawtooth displayed quite strangely on the oscilloscope : it was a very good saw but at its top a small pulse wave sitted and that gave the saw a very brilliant and nasal sound....I hope they will improve it on next versions

Omissis, maybe you can direct me to some good preset Banks for the CS-80V? Have you created any for the masses? I have downloaded the ones from the Arturia Website, they were really good, especially the one from Howard_Scarr.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Well Crimsontider , I actually made no presets but I'm planning to build some, once you understand the signal path, it is extremely fast to make your sounds, anyway they will be avaliable @ Arturia site!

The bank by Howard Scarr really show the CS80V off   .

Yes, they're very good, however I decided to erase all the presets to have as much freedom as I can!

@crimsontider and papawillow:

Howard has actually made a soundbank with 50 patches but this revised soundbank never made it to the Arturia website.
Please feel free to download it at:

Thanks for the Scarr bank, there were some great sounds omitted from the bank on the Arturia site. Thanks also for the tip about the presets!

I'm gonna go againt mostly everyone else here and say the 2600V. It has my favorite sounding saturation of all the arturia synths and manages to have some bite to it as well. I always seem to be wanting to add distortion to harder acidy sounds, but with the 2600V it seems to sit well on its own. I actually prefer it to Imposcar (Disclaimer: I'm not saying one is more "analog" or "authentic" than the other, only that my ears prefer the 2600V). They fixed the filter problems from the MMV too.

Thanks for the Bank link Fr@nk.

I have a friend that demo'd for a company at the NAMM show that has the Minimonsta beta - and says it sounds like a souped up Yamaha CS rather than a mini... he's played the real versions of both synths - go figure... :hihi:

With the new modules in V2, the Modular takes the cake - sorry boys... I love the CS-80V and use it all the time, but when I want to get surgical I go for the MMV2.

I really love the CS-80V, I think it's somewhat easier to use compared to MMV, and the Performance controllers are my favourites, they really can drastically change a sound with few movements! I hope that with the next updates, it will be strongly improved in sound and features and set free from bugs once for all!

I learned on a Moog Modular, so it's no surprise that the MMV is my favorite. Version 1 knocked my socks off, and just when I found them and was trying to put them back on, along came 2.0 with nearly every suggested feature added and more. MMV is definitely one of my favorite soft synths of all time.

CS-80 V has a very nice sound, and I'm slowly learning to make sense of the controls. I have special reasons to be fond of the ARP 2600 V. :-) But to me at least, there's something special about a modular.

i'm sure that "friend" has as much basis in reality as your "unbiased" opinions about the Minimonsta....... :P
