I haven't listened to the tracks yet but will..
This isn't new stuff by any means..
Listen to 'The Final Cut'(1983) by Pink Floyd. At one point on the disc, a missile is launched from behind left, shoots overhead, explodes front right, and the explosion comes back over all around you. Holophonics was the company who did those sound effects.
Also, Godley and Creme's Consequences Triple album (1978). The opening sequence has a burial where you are in the coffin being buried.. What they did was get a manekin head, with mics positioned at the ears pointing in the correct direction, then put it behind a large piece of wood, and shovel mud on top of it.. It's really freaky. They also did the most realistic fire I've ever heard short of actually going out and taping it. They recorded the sound of loads of newspaper being scrunched up, then on another track recorded the sound of popping that parcel wrap stuff with bubbles in it. Finally, they side chained the two, so that every pop let through the scrunched paper. A couple of short delays and flange, and you sound like your standing in the middle of a horrendous forest fire. Terrific stuff.
The Moody Blues apparently played with that kind of thing too, listen to 'The Best way to Travel' on 'In Search of the Lost Chord' (1969).
Algo's are great, but nothing beats actually recording the stuff!!!

I havent been able to do any vertical pannings or other moving 3 D effects with them. Thats what I am after. If they are pssible with those wavs, can you explain how to do them.
edit. Btw. Here is small experiment I made with synth1 and SIR.
One note (synth1 preset syndrum) is played through Sir. Wet sound only. I made impulse from mp3 original poster linked into this thread.

Christian Budde's dynamic convolution plugin might have been ideal for loading up all the impulses and then morphing between them but he took it down before I had a chance to try it out.

I have about 100 HRTF-files for my HRTF plugin.
This will include over 80 real people and some artificial heads with different equalisations. I also have some HRTF's of childrens and one generalized artificial child head. Because the childs heads are much smaller the HRTFs sounds much different.
Hearing this makes me feel like a little child again

Dynamic Convolution doesn't make much sense here, but i will try to set up a plugin, which imitates the dynamic capability of the ear soon (right after my exams and all the other stuff which comes then).

I also listened to quite a number of other recordings, and while i can clearly hear a sound behind me, it will never be in my front. Circulating objects do a half-circle behind my back, instead of fully surrounding me.. does this need good headphones with very linear freq. response to fully unfold it's effect? Mine are just a piece of $5 crapness.

The first thing I thought of when I started reading this thread was "The Final Cut". Such a great album. I've listened to it from end to end once a day for the last couple days.
I'll be sure to listen for the rocket during the beginning of "Get Your Filthy Hands Off My Desert".
The ambiences were great throughout the entire album. Were those binaurial too?

We have done several tests with HRTFs (binaural transfer functions) at our institute. Some test-persons reported that behaviour. In the case when the sound is in front or behind you, you will not receive a so called interaural time difference. For example if the sound is on the right, your right ear will hear the sound earlier and much louder.
In case of front/behind, the only difference you may here, is that the sound is colored (filtered) in a very special and unique way.
Every person has it's own head and that differs in some cases from the artificial heads used for binaural recording.
For example my girlfriend has this phenomena, too. So you're not alone...
The other point is, that the headphones need to be better than cheap. Additionally you can try different HRTFs. I have a library of more then 80 real persons with different heads. Maybe one person fits to your head. PM me or send me a mail for more details.
