Hello all,

I need something for our school. It should be freeware as it will be used by students.

I'm looking for software that can slow down CD music in realtime with good audio quality. It must be realtime.

I know "Amazing Slow Downer" which is just what I need but it costs 45 USD.

Anybody?

Thank you very much

Probably you have to understand, that a CD is not an analog device. You cannot simply drive the CD slower to get the same effect as on slowing down a tape for instance.

Therefore the digital data have to be very smart manipulated in realtime (with allot of memory and CPU action) to fake this "slow-down" effect.

So I guess it will be hard to find a Freeware with this technology (even if the pitch has to remain).

But who knows ?

i dunno if it's still around
but the old traktor or traktion demo (something like that)
could do exactly what you mean to do
the program was for DJing your mp3s
so it had 2 channels each with a pitch control
you could play a track and then pitch it down as much as you want....
that's the only program i can think of
but if that free demo isn't around anymore
ANY pc dj demo will work

i've prolly got that demo archived somewhere if you have to make me look for it.. ;)

Hello,

I have been reading but do not understand what tracktion is.

Is it the Mackie one or the one of Native Instruments.

Thank you,

Post

tracktion is the sequencer. What Jonathon was talking about was Native Instruments Traktor. i don't know if it can do it to any old CD in realtime though, I think it has to rip the tracks to the hard drive first.

sorry
lemme try to be more clear
Traktion and Traktor
are the names of specific music programs
they are made to emulate physical turntables
(is Technics 1200s)
on those turntables there is a pitch slider (+ or - 8%)
on the computer program there is no limitation
so for instance you can think of these 2 programs as MP3 players with a pitch shift (exactly what you're looking for )
try this one http://www.pcdj.com/
download the demo
and see if you can get it to do what you want...it's called pc dj and i tried it a while ago and it did what you want

Hello,

I really apreciate the help but the suggested programs are so ... huge. I can not buy them and they are to complex for students. Has anybody checked Amazing Slow Downer at http://www.ronimusic.com/ . I would like to find something like that but possibly free and with the same quality.

Thank you again

Well, the other alternative is to write a program to do it in VB maybe.

:D

The free stuff i know about that will do it.

Granulab and also Winamp has some handy dsp plugins.

Trouble is you will have to rip the track to the harddrive first.

:D fake :D
You cant beat people up then have them say "I love you"
