This has been discussed before, but I don't think it's ever been a dedicated thread and, besides, I'm curious.

To kick off I've got 140gb on my samples drive, inc sample sets, loops, and plug data files for things like RMX, BFD and Atmosphere.

Please don't take this a pissing contest ... more an attempt to see what the norms for 2005 are

How many gigabytes you got

good job its not a pissing contest ...

... currently about 15Gb (22168 files / 861 folders)

(with about another 20Gb or so of loops and misc samples on CD that i havent copied over to the external drive yet)

How do know what you have of sounds? 140gb is alot....

I only got 2,7gb and even think that is to much

140 gb?! holy shit, that's the diskspace I got for everything

As for samples, I have around 14.5 gb, including loops, one shots, a collection of soundfonts from the net (6.3gb), SampleTank library (4.5gb) and some other VST plugin data. I didn't count various project data scattered around my project folder

Around 70gb ready to use and almost 10gb still to be edited and customized.
I plan to keep it under 100gb for instruments the next years,its starting to be a bit to much:)
But i can see me reserving another hd for Vocal Libraries wich hopefully will come out after QLSC.

Howdy.

Currently, 1.6 GB in 105 files, not counting projects in progress. I use samples all the time -- my drummer spontaneously combusted, and I use classical or orchestral instruments in everything -- but I'm very, very selective, and only keep things which I think I might actually use one day.

One day I hope to have the money to buy something nice like GPO or the Scarbee Rhodes or any of the superb gigasampled Steinways, but until I turn pro or the kids grow up, it's freeware for me!

Anyway, it's all sampled notes, mostly in SF2 format. I despise loops. (Oops, that'll get me banned!)

17.5 gig, including soniksynth2 which I only put on yesterday. That's a f**k of a lot, considering I only ever use about 5 sounds.

7,72gb in roughly 22,000 files and includes loops, drumkits, soundfonts, everything.

Oh, i also have several 90 minute DAT tapes full of samples which i haven't converted over to PC yet.

About 60 gb of samples, it's hard to weed out the bad samples, but I think 20gb of it is usefull.

Danm, some of you guys have more samples than I have HD.. I only have 60GB HD

Samples, well let's see: EWQLSO silver 2 GB, Stylus RMX 7 GB, Sonic station 2 GB + maybe 2 GB of smaller stuff = 13 GB. But then again, I don't need 200 GB of samples to make crap music, 13 is enough

I think those who have 40+ gig of samples either consume 90% of their space for libraries OR don't dare to delete what they don't need.
I'd rather delete a sample than saying "Perhaps i'll need it sometime"...

68 gb of ACID loops, Refills, Sampletank 2 XL, Sonic Synth 1 & 2, a couple of Giga libraries. Waiting on the ST 2 XL update and Kontact 2 libraries..

33gb of that is Sampletank stuff in itself

59,644 files in 2,146 directories..

I seriously need to clean that lot up. I could probably get rid of a third of it.

That lot doesn't include the Wusikatation sets and a few others tucked away in my VST directory.
