templates are just *.flp files that are saved in the template directory (which is why they can be overwritten if you're not careful).

Create your template, i.e., loading up the channels and/or fx you want, then "save as". One of the folders in the default fruity project folders is "templates" save your template .flp file in that folder and it will appear in the pop-up template menu.

Hope that helps. :)

ouroboros...thanks but I already got that far.
Ive already created a template called "mydefault" and saved it to the templates folder. What I want to do is have that template open everytime I open FL.

As it is now, I open FL, the basic flp opens and then I have to open up my template.

well, once you save the template, then start a new profject:

file--> template--> select new template. Then close out of FL once it loads. Now when you boot up Fl it will load up the new template.

I believe that FL always loads the last used template.

doesnt work...its just the weirdest thing.

FL always opens the basic "kick, snare, clap, hat" flp
upon launch no matter what I do.

Maybe the default directory for FL has been changed from projects?

Other than that, hmmmmm. That is very strange

That's how it works for me.

i've never used any of the other fl templates, because mine is, by far, superior.

so, what i did is, i made a directory in the templates folder named "mine".

Code: Select all

C:\Program Files\Image-Line\FLStudio5\Data\Projects\Templates\Mine\
then, opened fl, set up my standard fx, mixer, groups, etc., etc. and saved it in the new directory i just created as "mine.flp".

Code: Select all

C:\Program Files\Image-Line\FLStudio5\Data\Projects\Templates\Mine\Mine.flp
now, whenever fl is opened, i am ready to slop some crap out straight away.

wait...wait. thats not right.

i opended up the template named empty (file -> templates -> Empty)

Arranged everything as needed, saved the file (overwriting the old one) in the templates/empty dir (C:\Program Files\Image-Line\FLStudio5\Data\Projects\Templates\Empty\Empty.flp).

Opened it again to see if it worked (file -> templates -> empty), it did.

closed and re-opened fls, to see if it worked. it did.

then was done.

appearantly both those ways have worked for me.

good luck.

it should be working, as long as you save it in the correct template folder...data>projects.templates(you should see it in the template list under file) Then like explained open the new template by going file>templates>your template...close FL (without saving) and next time you open FL your template should come up. To me this is very important, the template is needed to save me from having to link my PCR50 to my B4 dashboard controls each time, it remembers the link settings... :D

thanks for trying to help guys but unfortunately none of the suggestions worked. I even tried overwriting the Empty.flp with my own set-up(template)

oh well....I'll just forget about it for now. This is becoming far more of an inspiration killer than just loading my template after FL fires up. What makes me keep messing with it to try to figure it out is the fact that it seems like such a basic thing. You guys are all telling me to do the same thing but it just simply doesnt work.

Thanks for trying!

Just setup FL the way you want it to start and then save it as "untitled.flp". Works for me. :D

its funny I was just about to do that...just thought of it...lets see if that works

edit: doesnt work. I tried saving it to both the project and the project>templates folder.

Oooops Sorry I lied, it doesn't work. I don't remember how I get my custom setup to load each time. Never mind
EDIT:
Ok I just tried this. Start with the Empty template. Make your changes and save the .flp back to it's original folder location. I guess that's what everybody has been saying all along but I just tried it and it does work. I swear. :D

I wanted my template to run on opening fls without having to select from the menu. If you create a new folder inside the Data/projects/templates folder and put your new template in then it will appear in the drop down. If you just save the flp in the templates folder (no additional folder) it runs from startup. Hope this helps?, works for me.
