Very nice job with those combis Frunobulax! :D

I have listened to a few and they were mostly gems. Great job!

Thanks Pheeleep, I had a great time putting it together. For the pads and the ambient patches, I was going for an Atmosphere-inspired type of sound. I love messing around with these types of sounds.

It was great fun mangling acoustic instruments (such as a tuba or an oboe) and mixing these with synth sounds. Doing this can lend a natural sounding touch to an otherworldly-sounding combi patch.

Frunobulax,

Thank you, thank you, thank you. What a wonderful gift.

As a guitar player rather than a keyboardist these will not only be great sounfds to play with (they have already generated a few new ideas in my head) but also a great learning tool for putting such things together in SS2.

Thanks again,

Dan

You're very welcome Dan. One of the great things about sharing patches is that we can "reverse engineer" what others have done and add these tricks to our repertoire.

i'm in the process of doing some patches - but could someone check the following notes:

Arp_Row-Square

C#2
D2
D#2

It sounds very strange, like the looping on it is way too short, or just some strange LFO?

BTW, anyone been onto NIN.com - practically every synth pictured is within Sonik Synth 2! :)

Okay, at the risk of sounding completely like a dumbass ... how do you load instruments and combis? I can see all sorts of otions for saving but the only "load" option I see is on top under the FILE menu. I'm dying to check out the links here and I've got the files downloaded and ready but I'm stuck! Thanks in advance! In the meantime I'm going to try to download a manual for SS2. Mine was the CD only version. Maybe I should check the disk?

Post

I'm guessing you have to manually put the combis in the "SS2 Presets" folder (maybe make a subfolder of that for user presets)

then in SS2, "refresh preset list" under the black triangle

just got it last night, so I could be wrong

[edit: just checked, and the user's manual is not accessible directly from the CD, but is installed in the SS2 root folder (the one that contains the presets and instrument folders)]

Havran has it right. Make sure you put the combi files in your "SS2 Presets" folder, then when you hit the big black triangle at the top of the middle part of the blue screen, a menu will appear with all the combis.

If you just want to load an individual instrument, just double click on it in the directory of individual presets to the right part of the blue screen.

Let us know if this does not address your problems.

I checked it out and yeah I can hear that those notes have a rapid wobble to them.

Okay, finally got it to work. Part of my problem was I've got and SS2 folder and an ST2 folder. When I initially installed it, I copied all my SS2 stuff over to the ST2 folder so I could pull up SS2 sounds in ST2. I had everything moved over to my ST2 folder and when I refreshed it wasn't showing up. It was in the wrong place. Once I put it in the SS2 Presets folder like you said, it worked fine. I did find the manual, not on the CD (it had license, sound manual, and installation manual). It had installed the Owner's Manual in the folder I moved things back to. Anyway, sorry for the brain fart! Thanks a bunch for all of your help. BTW, from what I've heard so far, you guys put some excellent Combis up here. Thanks for sharing and keep em coming. Maybe I can figure this thing out enough one day to share as well!

alright i think we have a prodigy sound designer on our hands. Frunobulax thank you so much for sharing these well crafted sounds with us. i only listened to a few so far and i was blown away. i will learn a lot from these.

im glad that i started this thread seeing how we are all enjoying this stuff. i thought i was doing a lot by making a few patches last week, but then Frunobulax comes along and shows me that im producing at a rate of 1/15th the speed he makes patches at. how long have you been working on those patches for? thanks again.

Thanks Mr. T. I got SS2 around the holidays and probably spent 3 weeks or so putting those combi's together. Of course in doing so I neglected all of my other synths, as well as my personal hygiene. :-o

Squids needs to give that man a job! That would give Eric's Atmosphere a run for its money! Great job Fruno and Mr. T ... you're doing just fine ... just speed it up. And long as he's in Texas, who cares about his hygiene? Seriously, both of you many thanks for the ideas and sharing. It's enabling me (pun intended) to see into some directions it would have taken me months or years to get around to accidentally. Ya'll rule!
