Sorry in advance if this has been raised / asked before.

Does anybody else experience stability issues running Orion Plat and Asio 4 All together?

I was doing fine before, other than some latency issues from my Novation, but installed A4A in an attempt to resolve those latency issues.
It worked OK in that sense - my latency is now down to unnoticable proportions, but the effect it's had is to make Orion extremely unstable.
I get sound degradation after a certain period of time of constant playing and regularly have Orion crash and burn - always, apparently, due to A4A since I have to reset the Asio panel each time it crashes.

Orion didn't use to crash this often, and when it did it was mostly down to my dinosaur of a machine.
Since upgrading my processor, motherboard, ram etc though, Orion became much, much more reliable other than the annoying latency thing.

I'm thinking that either:
possibly in my ignorance, I've set A4A up wrong
or
Orion and A4A aren't very compatible.

Helpful suggestions and / or general finger-on-nose-raspberry-blowing welcome.

Thanks folks.

:help: ?

Anybody got any useful suggestions please?

Well, i installed it purely to use other apps, but i use it in OP, and havent had any probs as such, but my settings may be diff to yours. I just use a USB keyboard to record notes, no audio or owt....

I have no idea about ASIO anyway, i did ask here before, but it seemed to be all hit and miss :?

From what Ive raed on this from other people, it seems that ASIO4ALL gets you going if you have a basic soundcard and gives you low latency but it cant compensate when the instrument load gets high. In other words, it works better with less vsti or dxi instruments.

Thanks Krim.
Likewise I just use my USB keyboard with my VSTI's.

Didn't have this prob before A4A was installed, but if I take it off, I'm back to obnoxious amounts of latency again.
On the other hand, if I leave it on, I get Orion crashing and / or sound breaking up/stuttering.
Devil and the deep blue...

Here's hoping someone understands the intricacies of thie issue better than I. :?

Heres my settings (and yes, my card is shite, AC73 or something  )

OK.
I'm running Audigy Platinum with the front bay (old, I know).
The onboard ASIO is pretty shite, hence attempting the A4A thing.
Problem is, this happens on minimal tracks as well (ie tracks I'm just starting  ).

general finger-on-nose-raspberry-blowing

but seriously..
I had an even worse problem when I installed asio4all on PC no1
it crashed everytime I tried to run orion
I chalked it up to a conflict with the m-audio soundcard
although I do have a radium61 hooked up as well so maybe that was it

on PC no2 with just a soundblaster live card
orion runs fine with asio4all

I didn't have really bad latency issues tho, just need the asio4all to use EXT on PC no2

Krim:
My interface is a little different to yours:

It could be that I had a few things set wrongly, I've tweaked a couple of bits to match your set-up - see if it works any better.
Also, I'm not sure about the ASIO buffer size.
It appears to be optimum, but then I'm not entirely sure. :?

Opi:
so you think it might be a conflict with the soundcard?
It's a possibility, I must admit.
Had more than a few probs with the soundcard in other areas.
Seems to cause conflicts on games and such.
Maybe time for a much-needed upgrade?
But in the (skint) meantime, I'll just see what happens with my fresh settings. :)

Looks like your Audigy isnt using the ASIO, its using WDM...that doesnt look right, they are diff arent they? I dont know much, and im prob wrong, but it looks iffy to me.

if you can tweak the settings and get it to work
(and save that cash 8) ) I say go for it
but if you still have problems it might be time to look at that soundcard

Glassback: You're using ASIO4ALL v2!!! Exclamation marks a-plenty, because I had nothing but trouble with v2. :(

The dialogue on Kriminal's is for the original, earlier ASIO4ALL (which can be downloaded from the same website) and it's the one I use at the moment.

Something happened between Wuschell's ASIO4ALL and then the V2 which meant that I had terrible latency problems.

Switching back to the earlier version sorted it out for me. Maybe try that?

I don't know either, but doesn't the ASIO driver need a soundcard to operate?
And that's what's showing there?
I could well be wrong about that - just a shot in the dark.
The reason the interface is different though is cos we're using different versions at a guess - you're on A4A v1.8, I'm on v2.

What is WDM anyway?
(yeah, yeah, I know - it's probably really basic and I should know... )

Your post appeared while I was typing my last post!
Thanks for that - I'll try that as well. :)
(Although latency is fine :? )
