Well, there was equal crap written back that only served to spin him up. He has some interesting points to make: he just chooses to not express them very nicely, which is a pity.

Sorry man, there's a history going back some ways with this guy, and I have a hard time curbing my response to him. I cleaned up my posts, and that's the best I can do. He really does need to either quit antagonizing people or hit the road..and I know I'm not the only person that feels that way. Check your mod forum.

ciao,

I want to excuse me for my sarcasm hereby. (I see sarcasm and satire as an artistic method.)

And hope, you can see the serious points thru. Expressing me *nicely* is not always my strength. (I don't see it as an artistic method.) :)

And out of deference to you, I cleaned up my quote of your post. But I still agree with the original sentiment.

Good enough. Can we please move on, please?

About this kazoo thing..

thank you jackle&hyde. I really appreciate it. what makes me sad is that not many devs are participating... and that was one of your points. it really does sadden me. I mean, without them, there would be nothing really.

Well you actually have to approach them about it: not all of them are aware of this thread. (Apologies if you have contacted them through email/PM already!)

And I imagine you'll have to come up with something more concrete so far as competition subject/area. For example, I'd be able to put together some sort of strange sample-mangling devices, but would never approach an emulation. But I couldn't commit to participating until I know.

Of course, I (like most devs) have an extremely full plate: wish like heck I could get the time to do something frivolous/fun like this! That's the problem: not successful enough to quit day-job, but not enough time on off-hours to get successful enough to *quit* day job... :P

I hear you Markleford. I hope I can come up with a solid plan. I'll probably have to pm/email them like you said, if I/we can come up with a solid plan. I would really like this to be for freeware / donationware devs. here's the list of ones I know...(sorry if I leave anybody out)

xoxos
krakli
andreas ersson
arcdev
big tick
blue cat
ugo
elevayta
native instruments :P
dash signature
mda
ndc
odo
oli larkin
scuzzphut
toby bear
tweakbench
klanglabs

I'd really appreciate it you guys could give me the devs' that I left out.

to make it worthwhile: I forecast the average donation to be around 10 dollars. now if 500 people donated over the course of two months. and the competition lasted three months. that is 5000 dollars raised for the winner. we could distribute it to the top 10. or give it to number one only. 500 each or 5000 for one. for three month's time, I don't think it's that bad for a freeware/donationware dev. I mean if you're a freeware developer who encourages donations. it could mean that you either made 500 for a very good plugin that you made or 5000. I don't know if money turns most devs off but if it does then lets just have a build off / free for all with no money involved or something.

Speaking as a developer, I think it would be a really good idea to do one dry run with no money involved, work out the issues with rules, judging, etc., and only after that's been done to most people's satisfaction, do another with money on the line.

i know we're (usually) several hundred strong on the se users list, so.. w/o going back in thread and finding exactly why you listed devs, don't be surprised if you get a lot of participation!
you come and go, you come and go. amitabha neither a follower nor a leader be tagore "where roads are made i lose my way" where there is certainty, consideration is absent.

here it is in simplest terms:

1 month collection time - donations stop at cap of $500.00 (funny we already have that)

2-3 months of build time (depending on mutual agreement - no more than 3 months)

freeware only - open source encouraged

everything goes in building (C++, SE whatever, wacky dev alliances allowed ... drool ... , build whatever you want to build)

open source encouraged

***FAIRPLAY during voting time is STRONGLY ENCOURAGED - may the best man/men win***

no bruised attitudes/no hard feelings

thanks to everybody who helped me through this process. this time we want to show our appreciation in a silver "platter" while we all play the game of sound.

any comments? objections?

btw I worked really hard the last few days in order to learn how to make plugins, I'm building "the butt-plug" just for this competition if it takes place. plug it in and try to play. I'm collabing with steven west who is going to try to turn the idea of the hot-carl effect into reality on the vsti version. he'll also be doing the gui which is an interactive animation of ... well you know. there'll be an effect only version as well. we shall win!!!

kidding aside I hope this happens (the comp, not the butt-plug) and I hope we all have a lot of fun.

I'm matching sickle's 50.
