hey everyone, i've been wondering about these questions for a while now and would like to see what people's thoughts are:

1. what do you think the best format to import into the itunes library is? ie. mp3/AAC

2. what bitrates do you use? for mp3? for AAC?

3. if i buy a tune from itunes music store, can i convert it to mp3 and wav?

Post

1. Whichever you want...keep in mind the difference mentioned below...

2. AAC 160 or 192 (AAC 160 equals MP3 192 sound-wise)......that's what I use on my iPod

3. I don't think so (not sure)...

You couls always burn it to CD, then import it as a wav file.

i personally use mp3 at 160. it sounds fine to me, and maintains compatibility with other programs that lurk around on my computer.

i'm really starting to like itunes. i was against it for a while but after so long being slightly annoyed with the programs i use, i've found that itunes just works really well for me. it's good for sample browsing etc. too. the playlist implementation is really nicely done.
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

Once you figure out iTunes' quirks it's pretty cool. I like it at work 'cause I can listen to other peoples' libraries over the lan :)

how do you use it for sample browsing without it importing all of the samples into the iTunes library automatically?

well it's good in the sense that if you've set them all up in there, it can be super convenient. the only thing is it's a bit of a bugger to actually get it tidy; it'd be ideal if you could have two libraries; one for samples and one for all your music.

i've not found a simple way of getting it all in yet, i've just been experimenting by adding relatively small numbers of samples. being able to make playlists for grouping them, and having dragndrop and previews working quite neatly makes it an appropriate tool. but like i said it would be super if you could have multiple base libraries...
