Cortex - Amazing Distortion!

I have to push this on to the people who are unaware of this plugin. No amp sim I have tried so far would allow the resonance of many synths to have a crisp sound. Most amp distortions add a lofi effect to the sound making styles using high resonace a problem, yet an amazing sound in the low registers. Alas, Cortex does not have this limitation allowing a high quality sound come through even at the highest resonant setting, depending on the amp models in the plug.
I can say this without hesitation that this is quite possibly the best free amp sim out there, though, like the much loved simulanalog guitar suite, a gui is not available. If you like great sound, dl it, if you like perdy graphics and not the sound, stay clear.

Can you get a heavy Marshall sound on it? I tried it for a little while and I thought I could only get a bluesy moderate overdrive.

You have a choice of blues, power, and lead distortion. Add the amount of drive you wish with the gain and tube controls. I have gotten crunchy blues style drive and power screaming distortion. Fiddle with the controls, the possibilities are there. add a soft overdrive plug after cortex in the chain to get even more drive without destroying the signal. Try out lots of combinations in the sp1, sp2, and sp3 controls to get anything from american to british sound and probably your marshal sound as well.

I've been playing with this one myself lately on a guitar track. Wish their was some documentation for it. Can someone explain to me what is happening in the SP parameters? What do those words "Mar," "Fen," "Hnk," "Vox," etc. mean?

Good features and tone. I don't know what really crashes it but I get a crash if gain is 0, tone is 10, low medium and hi are 10. Don't know if that's it or something else. Doesn't always crash, but some kind of problem if set like I described.

There's a pdf that goes with it. I don't remember if it was a seperate download or if it was with the dll download. It's not highly detailed.Reqs wrote:I've been playing with this one myself lately on a guitar track. Wish their was some documentation for it. I've re-written the manual for anyone that wants it... just drop me a PM and I'll e-mail it to you. I never heard back from the Cortex guy about whether or not he found it useful and will include it in future downloads.PT wrote:There's a pdf that goes with it.
