I am really confused :?.I use Logic 5.5.1 for producing and i want to use another host for mixing down. Don't interrogate why :p?

I just tried work a bit with Samplitude 8 Pro at a mates, cause i thought that it naturally lended itself to this kind of work but really, it has IMHO an unispiring interface, is bad with redraws and really doesn't have any advantages over for example SX3 apart from the object based approach.

The other apps i am considering is Pro-Tools (least like for a number of reasons), Cubase SX3 and, Audition. Do you reccomend any over the others? Am i missing something with SAMP ?

Hm, you want to export all audio and do the entire mix in another app? Sounds pretty cumbersome to me...
Besides that I think for audio work samp is very good, I am also demoing v.8 currently but the midi/vsti side is still lacking and I had it crash hard today in the midi editor too.
I am using Sonar 4 as my main sequencer btw.
If you do your actual creative work in Logic getting sx3 does not make that much sense I think. Audio features are better in Audition and Samplitude.
Can't really comment on protools as I've never used it.

I know samplitude is supposed to be great for audio but i already have wavelab for audio editing. I just need a good app with PDC and 32 bit float mixing path to get my mixes done.

Samp has those but the interface is bad for me e.g. : can't seem to setup keyboard shortcuts for fast forward ( or if i just can't find it blame it on the unintuitive shortcut editor), having to setup each automation parameter in that manner is something really annoying, and obviously samp knows better than me deciding that if i have 2 tracks they're supposed to fill up the screen.

How is the automation in audition and is it viable for mixing or is it a glorified wave editor ?

In retrospect, I can see why they fired me from my post as a suicide prevention counselor...

Try cursor left/right (arrows)
bad with redraws
I agree with you there but what you can do is setup a 2nd Drawmode . Hit Y on your keyboard and select View Options . Drawmode 1 is the default . Select Drawmode 2 and uncheck the Draw Samples box you can then switch between the 2 drawmodes in the arrange page using the TAB key .

Kraznet thx for the solutions. Will give them a go and see how they work. Anybody know where i can get a manual or review or help file for sammplitude to get an idea of the way it works ?

Come on mate. Gimme a break. Cumbersome ? You do realize this was always the procedure in the old days of analog. Want me to make things worse ? I'll use Wavelab for mastering :D.
I think that Producing, Mixing and mastering at different stages can help your brain use the right resources more efficiently and get each task done better

As for your thornemaelstrom your solution is looking sweeter by the minute :p

Btw no one has commented on my other choices. Someone? Anyone ? [/b]

use pro-tools

Thanks. I see your strong point is elaboration :D. One reason i saw samp as a good partner to logic, is that they share (about) the same mixer logic (:p pun intended) of making everything visible in the mixer window, and Pro-Tools uses this approach too, as opposed to the horrible IMHO way cubase and Nuendo handle it.

What wordlength is the signal path in PTLE, and how good is the playback ??????? If anyone knows will it get Full PDC soon (or at all for that matter)? If i do eventually opt for PTLE would you reccomend Mbox or 002 Rack (higher bitrate and sampling rate worth it ?

Is audition really turning into a viable DAW, or just a glorified multitracker ? Downloading the demo on my modem, but wanting to save some time (and money :p)

Samp has given me a good impression since the first time but i can't seem to get my way around as the manual my friend has is in German, which is good for Him but bad for me  . Anyone know bout PDC, wordlength and dithering in each of these?
I know i'm annoying but pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease help me make the right choice. This is big bucks i'm going to be blow any path i got so it better not be wasted

Have you considered SAWStudio?

Not wanting to offend any SAW lovers, i HATE it. I find it a horrible workflow, with horrible graphics and though i'm not an eye candy guy, it goes beyond being just not easy on the but pretty much an abomination of design. I realise coding the whole program in ASM makes UI a hard task, but doing this , althouth commentable and appreciated until 6,7 years ago is now unescesary. The route Samplitude goes this way is probably the best : UI in high level, engine and critical plugin functions assembly.

Not to be unfrair, it does have one of the best engines around and sounds great but i mean, come on mate, design a proper interface (or have it deisigned) or just licence the engine elsewere. Hell i would design the UI free of charge for him if he would let me.
