I have a question now for over years.
When i listen to music specially music from the 80's.
When i hear a singer he has a reverb or delay on his voice with a littel delay.
It's hard to explain, example when he sings "here i am again" then the last again repeats 1 time, another example 'Shall we go or not" the Not is again in delay, you will hear "not" "not" in the song.

How can this be created, witch plugin do you need for it?

You need to automate the signal level sent to the effect. Quite a simple trick once you know how to... And "how to" depends on which host you use.

I use Sonar 4 producer edition, and i have a lot of plugins i guess almost every there is.

Can you tell me how to do then?

There are several ways to do it. The easiest IMO is to make a 2nd track of the vocal and put an all wet echo on it. When you get to the parts you want to hear the echo, automate the volume to the desired level. You set the echo to whatever timeing suits.

Other ways are to actually use the vocal track AS the echo on the 2nd track. You clip out pieces and move them back to whatever timeing you want and again automate volume/pan to get what you want.

There are about 400(ok, maybe not 400, but a lot) more ways to do this same thing
If you have to ask, you can't afford the answer

:lol:

to achieve this effect, you need to travel back in time to when people had mixing boards. then you actually reach out, and really really touch! the send trimmer.

but wait! that's not all! you can't do it any old time, like adjusting yourself, the trick is, and because i like you, i won't charge you this time, *only do it for the last word*

amazing!

i realise in s/w this is suddenly a formidable task, best left to the experts and people who can make plug-ins because they are geniuseses.
you come and go, you come and go. amitabha neither a follower nor a leader be tagore "where roads are made i lose my way" where there is certainty, consideration is absent.

Thank you, Xoxos for your accurate description how it was achieved originally. In hardware it was very easy, on a DAW its not so straight forward.

I hope the following diagram makes some sense:

Code: Select all

Vocal track: >---[FX Send]------->
                   |
                   └->-[Effect]-->
The effect (delay/reverb/whatever) is not part of a normal effects chain. Instead it is fed by a effect send (or aux) bus. The fx send knob controls the signal level to be sent. This you have to move up & down at the right times.

You have to figure out how to build/use a FX Send bus and level automation yourself. This is different in every host. Sometimes the Senderella plugin can help.

I'm sure he'll have something that will work, COokie.

After all, he has every plugin ever made. :?

NuSofting Morphing Delay can do this automatically.

You can even sweep the delay time to get those wonderful Sigue Sigue Sputnik effects.

My compliments,

...well officer, it was like this...
