I recently bought AMG's cheap Seminal House Library. According to the info Seminal House is a 2 CD Set, 1 AUDIO CD, 1 WAV file CD. And it was, but...

The files on the wave cd are named with a "*" in the filename. Since this is an illegal character in Windows, i could find no way to copy theese files to the hard disc, or not even to hear them.

I tried to contact AMG, but never got an answer.
I Contacted Sounds-On-Line, the reseller, but the only reply i got was "You can use the audio portion of the CD" Thats it, nothing else!

Yes I can use the audio cd, but this is extremly time consuming, and i did not think i would have to that when there is a wave cd available.

I could use a free program called isobuster, with wich i was able to copy and rename the files. But only one by one so that would also be very time consuming. (Or buy a mac, since i believe it could read the files, but that would make it one very expensive sample collection

)

I really think they should have a warning that the wave cd won't work with windows.

So, i would like to advise everyone who is thinking of buying a AMG sample collection to do their homework well before parting with their cash.

Would it be possible to batch re-name the files?

I tried a couple of renamers, but they could not access the files since there was illegal characters.

A bit of catch 22 i think

the only thing I can think of is using a batch renamer on a mac...

Odd question...it may or may not work but have you tried using burning software? Some software will auto rename bad filenames to work...so if you dont do a direct copy but rather drag and drop the files from one disk to the other...that may work.

I actually don't remember what i paid, but it was not full price.

Yeah, i felt a bit dissapointed. I Think it's a really stupid mistake to make for a well known company, and they wasn't very helpful either.

Well you win some lose some they say. I have had better experiences with other brands

I bought the same CD and I had the same problem. All I did was contact AMG, I was given an address to send the CD, and he sent one back in the proper format. You should be able to contact them, keep trying.

Matt @ AMG here!

First off please mail us again and I'll see to it I sort out a replacement. I haven't seen your mail but as soon as I do I'll get onto it. We've fixed this for many people before although EW haven't been our distributor for years and shouldn't really still be selling these CDs. But we fix it up anyway. The only proviso I'll make is we recently re-located to Florida and I *might* not be able to get my hands on the fixed files until I get all my stuff over in a couple of months. Hopefully though I can find a copy on a HD somewhere.

As for the fault it is a stupid and easy mistake to make on a Mac. PCs get confused pretty easily about their native formats. We didn't realise because we did it on a Mac and it was the first title we ever did (along with one other) and never made the same mistake again. Anyway no excuse. You can't really fix it - unless you can use a Mac and edit the files on that.

No exactly but I have visited.

I'm a bit further North up in Palm Beach Gardens.

Incidentally the other affected CD is The Vinyl Frontier 1. However I will send fixed versions out to anyone who contacts us with suitable proof of purchase.
