Is Fruity Loops lacking?

Is it me or is fruity loops just lacking in the ability to make precise loops?
Its great for laying down loops really quick (it has an excellant and intuitive workflow) but as soon as you want to do any tweaking you're out of luck.
If you want a note a little bit early or a little bit late, then you're buggered. You've got no micro control over your drum position. Natural organic sounding drums are always a little bit early or a little bit late. Its crucial to the sound.
Also, some drum samples have a bit or a slow attack. It's not within the scope of the program to line up samples with any percision other than your quantization level and your swing.
Im not sure I can use a program where you can't turn quantization off.
Are people out there making tight loops from single hit samples in FL? It looks like such a promising program with a quick workflow, but as soon as you want some control, it stops you in your tracks (pun intended)

Are you talking about the piano roll or the step sequencer???????Twigg wrote:Is it me or is fruity loops just lacking in the ability to make precise loops?

edit>> Cos you can put the notes precisely where you want to in either - but it's a little more hidden in the step sequencer.

IMO, FL EXCELS at micro control over "drum position". Open up the graph editor and play around with the shift parameter. This will allow you to shuffle beats with ease. You can also send your snare, hat or any sequence to the piano roll and groove quantize it.Twigg wrote: If you want a note a little bit early or a little bit late, then you're buggered. hope that helps

Now that I have everyones attention I have more questions.
I'm trying to migrate my drum programming into Fruity loops because I like the workflow alot better compared
Cubase Midi + Battery2. (I like battery but I don't like drum sequencing in cubase)
I want the sequencing and sampling all in one machine.
Is anybody using FL as a vst plugin for cubase (probably)? Does it work well?
How do you select diffent patterns to play from Cubase?
If it doesn't integrate well with cubase then I'll be forced to bounce the loops and import into cubase and that will just suck as much as cubase + battery.
What is peoples workflow for Cubase + FL Studios?

If you have FL then you dont need Cubase
You can use everything from Cubase in FL (i mean on third party FX and instruments) and workflow is IMHO far far ahead from Cubase bad drum editor

Minus the little bugs studio has (ALL hosts have them), studio is not lacking a thing imo.

FL rules.
Isn't that awesome?
Obviously it's different for other people, but from my point of view, FL is the single most practical way to make a wide variety of different types of music, all quite comfortably.

Amen, brother! I've been using FL since 3 point something and have always prefered it over any other host. I don't know why it still gets described as a "dance music" creation tool. My (amature) work is ambient/prog/jazz/eclectic/etc. and FL has always been the perfect tool to help me bring the music in my head out into reality.Rellik wrote:FL rules.

FL is PERFECT for making any kind of beats.
If you want to offset the samples for a human touch(which I often want to do) just move them via the piano roll.
