I`ve installed winXP with SP2 integrated on my friend`s new computer and evrything works fine.

I`ve installed the cubase SX2 (latest update) and I cant get direct monitoring, this option is grayed out.
Latensy of ASIO is about 43ms, with is fine enough for my friend, as he is not going for best quality or latency (its not the main workstation).

VSTi and VSTfx works great.

The soundcard is a crapy old Terratec Xfire.
the strange thing is...it all used to worked fine before, on the same computer with the same soundcard and the same Cubase, but with winXP sp1.

any idea?

I suspect you need to upgrade the drivers for the soundcard, or use the CuBase Asio driver (or stay away of it) or try Asio4All. The feature is part of the Asio driver....

Post

as the saoundcard mentioned above doesnt have its own asio drivers, I cant use them.

I`m already using the cubase asio drivers and I tryed using the asio4all drivers, its all the same,
the "direct monitoring" option is disabled (grayed out)

SP2 is hell when you are producing music imo..

i had nothing but troble with sp2 installed. :x

does that card support direct monitoring cause if it doesn't it won't work.

Direct monitoring... I understand that budget is possibly an issue, but "Direct monitoring" is nothing but a term used to describe a very basic concept:

Hearing the sound without your host and/or effects and/or soundcard adding latency.

Just use a mixer.

or if the soundcard support Monitoring..

mine does.. great if you dont use a mixer when you have some hardware.

This is completely up to the soundcard and has got nothing to do with SP2 (which is running very fine on 2 different machínes over here).

If you can get the latency low enough, try monitoring through SX.
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.
