16bit to 24bit

Maybe this is a newb question but how much loss is there when you convert a 16bit sample to 24-bit?

16 to 24bits, and lose?? 
Ehm, actually don't bother doing that... the files will be 1.5x bigger, zeroes will be added in the least significant 8 bits. Its the same file (sounds exactly the same) but bigger.

yeah like he said.
you don't lose anything going 16 to 24 but it has no point... it like augmenting the size of an already compressed jpeg...you wont see anything more(analogy for sound)
I remember thinking that a 16 bit file converted to 24 bit would sound better, but its silly
if your talking 24 bit to 16 bit , now there's a different story.....although the file must be recorded at 24 then converted to 16 ....

If your plugin is a Synth-edit/synth-maker creation, Say So.

I didn't actually meant lose. Well, when you write some stuff using a vst-instrument and you have 16-bit drum loop at the back. When you export the vst-synth to wav, this should be in 24-bit right? Then is it nessecary to convert the 16-bit drum loop to 24-bit in order to make the final mix in Cubase?so all the wav files would have the same bit quality and sample rate?

I think CuBase is perfectly able to do the necessary conversions on the fly itself. I would be quite surprised if you had to do that yourself. and quality-wise it should make no difference weather you do it up front, or leave it to CuBase.
