Hardly a worthy test run, then, eh?2windy wrote:Funny, I installed the free version, fired it up 2 nights ago for the first time and 30 mins later uninstalled it. Not impressed really.![]()

Don't worry, I'd do the same thing if I fired up Orion Platinum. When you're used to a certain way of working, it takes more than 30 minutes to appreciate a different way of working, but the other part of the equation is that you're already happy with Orion Platinum, so you wouldn't really be LOOKING to change sequencers.
I think the "seen the light" people are by definition people who are fed up with their sequencer's way of working, and give Tracktion an honest chance. Not always (hey, we're not all the same!), but a good deal of the time, people seem to appreciate T's way of working.
It's not for everybody, but you couldn't pry me away from it with a completely free and legitimate copy of Nuendo, and certainly not with a soft studio of any sort. That's just not my way of working.

I'am an Orion Platinum registered user, and when I tried Tracktion the first time, I was derouted and forgot it.2windy wrote:Funny, I installed the free version, fired it up 2 nights ago for the first time and 30 mins later uninstalled it. Not impressed really.![]()

When the free version came, I gave it a second chance, read the manuel , and now, Tracktion is the best for me, I use Orion only in rewire as an expander...
Tracktion is really an incredible piece of software, I'm now waiting for T2...

HI
I love a MIXER - but one way of thinking about Tracktions mixer (it has a volume control for every sound source - yes?) is to imagine that sound is BALANCED at source rather than being brought to another place to be treated.
I kind of like the move away from MIMICKING the past - quite simply Tracktion does not revert to a quasi analogue representation and in doing so allows a single screen space to become a comfortable workspace.
I would agree that having the analogue model of however many faders in a line gives a nice visual feedback but in saying that (having had a soundcraft Ghost mixer) this gets lost in big mixes and doesn't really help, i would end up with faders all over the place which did not benefit the mix in any way - IMO.
I just hope the midi editing is a touch more friendly - although I have been doing lots of audio work since getting Tracktion - it is just so hands on.
Flipper.

sssshhhh!!!!
Anyone who can't get their heads around the concept that Tracktion's mixer is properly integrated into the arrange page, rather than being a slavish imitation of out-dated hardware, needs to stick with their crappy tracker programs IMO.
We have enough morons on the RMS forum already.

I know I didn't give it a fair shot (might have been an hour even?) but it just didn't hit me between the eyes like I was expecting from all the cafuffle around here. Not saying I won't give it a proper run at some point when in a better frame of mind (or broken wrist is healed!) and see how I get on but I'm 100% happy with Orion and only really wanted some to compliment it rather than take over.Lunch Money wrote:Hardly a worthy test run, then, eh?2windy wrote:Funny, I installed the free version, fired it up 2 nights ago for the first time and 30 mins later uninstalled it.
