looking at mkey for someone on the mackie forum and this still happens (was it ever addressed ??? ) ...
... just switching tabs and back works here to reset it though ... no need to shut T down completely ...

if switching tabs back and forth clears it, then the problem probably doesn't lie with MKey. MKey should still be hogging all key events even when you leave the edit tab (or even Tracktion).
If MKey gets its knickers in a twist and stops responding to caps key presses, the only way to fix it would be to unload MKey and reload it.
If there is any other way to fix it then that suggests that for some reason the key press is never reaching the plug. This could either be Tracktion intercepting and not passing on the event, or some other system hook fighting with MKey.
There are a number of ways I could make MKey more robust, but I'm not sure this is one of them.

thanks mate ... i wasnt necessarily suggesting the problem WAS with mkey ... i was just trawling through the forum for info on it and came across tingles old post here that tied in with a little mini tuturial ive posted on the mackie forum ...
(thinking out loud) ... i wonder if this is vaguely related to the click-through issue (ie - T not always really knowing which bit of UI has focus) ???

I don't know TBH.
Once an instance of MKey is loaded, it should receive *all* key events. This should be irrespective of anything that Tracktion is doing, or not doing. It would typically be true to say, therefore[1], that if MKey is failing to process key events that the problem must lie with MKey. However, in this case, nothing you could do in an alternative application could cause MKey to start working again.
Which suggests that something is occassionally going wrong elsewhere. That said, I doubt it is as a result of a Tracktion bug either. I suspect for some reason Windows is occassionally bypassing the system hook and sending key presses directly to the active application. At this point though, I couldn't say why, or whether there is a workaround I could use.
[1] assuming of course no other applications are using key hooks.

Possibly.
I'm *slowly* rewriting MKey from scratch as I lost the original code. I'll probably vastly rethink the way the keymapping works when I come to that stage.
