Okay guys,

Here we go. Those who own tracktion etc.

Let's compare final mix

with Izotope Ozone.

Obviously ozone has to be more professional, right?

Please, before I waste money I dont have

Let me know why final mix isnt as good, etc etc

The most obvious difference is that Ozone has a very high quality built-in dither. It also has 4 bands, a very useful stereo imaging module, and a more fully featured compressor section (with expansion, compression, and limiting). I would also say that the metering in Ozone is excellent, while Final Mix is, well, not as good. Also, if you're going for maximum volumne, Ozone's mastering limiter will do so in a much more transparent way than the soft clipping of Final Mix.

Now, whether you like the sound, and whether it justifies the expense is obviously up to you to decide, but I think Ozone is clearly better from a features standpoint.

I've never got a good sound out of Final Mix... But it may be my fault...
Does anyone find it sounds good ?

Final Mix is a 3 bands compressor and a EQ.
Ozone do the same and much more : stero enhancer, harmonic exciter, reverb, dithering and limiter.

Ozone GUI is also much nicer (some don't like it) and very easy to use...
Moreover the izotope mastering guide is very very good.

(And I don't have Ozone !!

I like Ozone better. The digital linear EQ in Ozone is great, and it has a great limiter and dither.

is ozone a good choice for puting on the master out if you are playing Live through a laptop? and does pdc figure into the equasion when using it as my host doesn't have pdc??

Ozone is better. Although if you dont know the principles of mastering you might aswell use Karlette to master.
