I've been very impressed by Herbie Hancock/Chick Corea style of funky Rhodes playing (IMHO that's especially evident in their 70s performances with Headhunters and Return to Forever, respectively) but I have no idea how to replicate it. :?
As I'm fundamentally bass player I have little or no keyboard skill or knowledge. :(
Any suggestion? Any standard voicing, reccomended scale choice, classic rhythm pointer you can share?

Advise on instructional books, must-listen records and even midi examples would be highly welcome too 8)

thanks in advance

I just kinda...bash the hell out of it :)

When I want to learn about a music style I just sample short sequence of it & try to replicate what I hear with what I have.
Analyse the playing, check the tempo, notes, velocity, etc...
With todays tools it quite easy. :)

Well, it's hard to emulate either Corea or Hancock easily because both of them 1)know music theory up down sideways and a hundred other ways, and 2)are amazing virtuoso players. However, just "faking it" will in fact result in some nice stuff, but not at their level.

A couple of good records are Bitch's Brew and In a Silent Way, both by Miles Davis during the early fusion era and full of very cool Rhodes comping.

Indeed, Palm Grease and Actual Proof are two of my all-time fave tracks. I love the Headhunters stuff!
