As with "slow melodic to distortion" the opening seems determined to convince the listener that the rest of the piece is going to be shit.

Oh yeah you must have seen this name I’ve posted at least 75 songs and everybody loves'em and I always get tones of feedback.

Thanks for taking the time to listen grilla. I could listen to pretentious distorted modulating crap all day, but that’s what makes me tick. Glad you liked the rest of it, this one was a quicky (thirty minutes). Just wanted to see what kind of sounds I could put together.

Pretentious modulating crap...

Some good ideas here... the background detail is excellent and mutates nicely. I find the keyboardy stuff sounds a little out of place and lightens the mood a little too much. I like the rhythm a lot - sounds almost gamelan influenced at moments.

Hey genetic...I really liked this piece. Will have to listen to the other one. Agreed with dystonia_ek regarding the gamelan sound...have a real sweet tooth for that...certainly covered alot of ground. Personally, I really enjoyed the different areas I was led into but would have liked each piece of the pastiche to have lasted a bit longer for further devlopment and evolve...the transitions were a bit abrupt for me...but I'm an old fashioned kinda guy. All in all, totally refreshing.

Mayan thanks for listening, and liking. I don't know who gamelan is or are, but I take most stuff as complimentary anyway. You are right about developing the ideas, I just get impatient and move on, when I should leave it then come back and see if any thing else comes to mind.

Gamelan is kind of an ensemble percussion thing played, at least, in Bali and Java (although both are highly distinct from each other). They often use bell-type things, gong-type things, and other metallic and wooden tonal instruments. There are circumscribed scales which someone else would have to explain...I know 'em, when I hear 'em...but don't know what they are precisely. I think the word describes the ensemble, as well as the style.

I have been attracted to gamelan for many years and highly recommend that people listen to recordings. One really cool - really famous recording is that of the "Monkey Chant." While it may not qualify as "gamelan" per se I think alot of the elements are similar...not the least of which is its from Bali as well. It's amazing, this big group of men chanting, I think from the Ramayana, which is about a Monkey Hero.... Unbelievable textures and pitches and rythyms emerge. Highly recommended. And its True Trance.

Apparently, also, from a trivia perspective, gamelan was supposed to have played a major influence on Debussy - who proceeded to influence everybody else.

Maybe those more knowledgeable can help to fill in the gaps.

really enjoyed this, but i was'nt keen on the first 45 seconds of sound effects. That's the only criticism i have though. The experimentation with styles and sounds kept it really interesting and made it the sort of track that gets better with repeated listenings as it reveals new things. I would'nt consider pretentious as an insult though as that's where a lot of great ideas come from. Nice work.
