1. Move or copy your midi files to the ‘USER’ section for easy access. The location for the USER folder is typically something like:
C:\programfiles\FLSTUDIO4\Data\Patches\User.
Move/Copy your files and arrange them in folders so you won’t have go through all of them each time you compose.
2. Open FL Studio and then the ‘browser’ view [F8] if it is not enabled already.
3. When you open the USER section now, your midi files will be visible and easily accessible. Open a folder and drag a file directly onto any channel and the file will be instantly imported in that channel’s piano roll.
(Note: You will need to select channel 10 if you are importing drums!)
For example, use FL studio’s ‘MIDI out’ to direct the file to an external device like a drum machine or keyboard. When using the 'MIDI out' function with drums, make sure you set the plugin’s channel to 10.
4. You can import up to 9 patterns using this method. Simply select pattern 2 after the first import and drag another file over. There are 9 pattern slots available.
5. Once you have your patterns imported, you can use the PLAYLIST to assemble them into a song. In the PLAYLIST, Pattern one will contain the data from pattern one in the previous step, as will patterns two through nine. Use the brush tool to ‘paint’ them in…
