A Swedish audio mag did such a blind test a number of years ago when 24 bit/96 kHz interfaces were starting to become more common. A number of professional audio people were presented with bits of audio in all combinations of 16 or 24 bits and 44 or 96 kHz.

I can’t remember the details of how the test was set up but I do remember that the results were pretty clear. Most of the subjects were able to tell the 16 bit from the 24 bit sound clips but the 44 vs 96 kHz results were basically random – noone could really tell the difference.

The conclusion was that there are audible benefits to using 24 bits but that 96 kHz sampling rate is mostly for bat people. :D

There's nothing wrong with being ignorant, but don't offer advice if you know jack-shit.
Same goes for you, and your post just proved that. Keep you uniformed opinions to yourself, they have no relevance in this thread.

Sounds about right. :)

There is one reason I would really like to up my sample-rates (CPU can't cope atm :( ) and thats because it makes my collection of home-brew SE synths sound loads better!

If SE ever grows internal over-sampling however, that reason will fade away.. until I try a few mixes at high sample-rates I can't really comment; I do know for sure that 24-bit recording pisses all over 16-bit however, and I stick to 24 these days except for the roughest guide parts.

Well, the problem is you see: my posts are full of facts which can verified, wheras yours was full of ignorant misleading bullshit.

If you can challenge any of the statements I made with a proper argument, go ahead, I will read it with interest. Otherwise you are just a moronic troll trying to appear knowledgable to a bunch of newbies who have a hard enough time learning all the jargon without wankers like you spreading myths and half-truths.

I was thinking more of a big 'twat coat' for your good self.

So, show me the 'facts' as you've read them, links to such 'facts' that are reputable. You have obviously got all these 'facts' elsewhere, its clear as crystal you have not done the tests yourself. Show me the money.

And your word is gospel? You are the all knowing one? I think not. Your opion differs from mine, and you cannot show me any proof that you are right and i am wrong, so run alonf to another forum and play trolls if thats how you wish to spend your weekend. Ciao.

Oh well, that demolishes all my arguments!
I've got a nice warm coat already thanks.

Bob Katz Chapter 13 has a brief introduction to dither for ignorant a-holes like yourself.

I would recommend his book, but I fear it doesn't contain enough pictures for someone of your reading age.

I'm off for a jam now actually, so won't be able to trade insults for a few hours..

I'm not trying to educate you anyway (I'd rather try to teach a dog to skin up for me), just trying to prevent you confusing other people who are ignorant because they are newbies, rather than because they are thick as pig-shit.

If you focus on the very tail of the fadeout and turn the volume up so loud that the actual track would've blown your eardrums, yes.

I'd kinda agree with platinumears, actually, more than "kinda". Read http://www.tcelectronic.com/media/bobkatz.pdf and also visit http://www.digido.com/ sometimes for heaps of quality info. Great reading.

Cheers.

Is there a difference in dither quality? For example, Brand A sells a super duper dither plug for $250, supposed to be great, but is it any better than the stock dither in my host?
If there is a difference, can someone reccomend some good dither plugs? Only one comes up in the search.
Thanks!!

As i thought, you just got it all from a book and didnt actually challenge it and try for yourself, how sad.

Ah, a stoner, that explains your posts.

So newbies are all ignorant? However do you lower yourself to answer their questions?
