Which is the best? Why? The price isn't that important.

I don't know if there are others which should be mentioned but these are some examples:
Izotope Ozone
T-Racks
Adobe Audition
Soundforge
PSP vintage warmer

I really don't know which to choose and I can't(like most people) afford Pro tools(the large edition)

So if you can help me on the decision I would be grateful.

I can't vote. I use Kjaerhus Gold and several Voxengo (although some are more mixing-related). Or are these not for the type of mastering that you are talking about? I'm not sure of they are the best, but people here were very enthusiastic about them, and they were / are affordable :D  :P

P.S. If these are totally wrong products for this thread, please enlighten me, I like to learn.

I would vote for Soundforge, but i only master in it using 3rd party FX.

hey Seus how are yah? I guess you know what my vote would be, but two reasons...I'm use to AA and I do very little actual mastering...when a final project is ready I would much rather send it to a mastering house before duplication...good to see you here at K-v-R, welcome I know you'll enjoy it... :D

Wavelab is by far the best host the PC has to offer for mastering. Sound Forge is better for editing. But a host will only take you so far. The best mastering plug-ins can be found for DSP cards such as UAD-1 and PowerCore. Sony Oxford EQ, MD 3, Inflator, Precision EQ and so forth. If money was no limit I would shop for Wavelab, a PowerCore and a UAD-1. To top that you need to go hardware and add several zeros to your budget to have tools in the big leauge.

There is a hierarchy in these things. It goes:-

Ancient Analogue
Modern Analogue
Digital Hardware
Digital Software with DSP card
Digital Software native

It's utter bollocks, of course, but it explains the previous post.

Hehe. Well put. I'm not sure digital hardware tops digital software for DSP cards on a grand scale anymore though. There are arguably exceptions such as TC Electronic's System 6000, but the software would run on DSP cards if it was financially sensible for the dev to put it there - which it isn't.

well everything depends on what sound you make and how you make it!!

www.x-buz.com
offers you some nice comps. destroying nothing from your material!

above I voted for psp vintage warmer! but this is not all! first of all your mixdown has to sound good by the ears. you can do alot(!) with adjusting volume and equalizing!

Izotope is of course great stuff too...

Please write reasons to your selections with which programs you've used etc. and why either of them is better. As detailed as possible.

Hink>> Hi, you too. I started a similar thread on the FL forum but it didn't get that many useful replies. Anyway, what do you mean by mastering house?

I haven't gotten far in this business yet, I only have FL and Wusikstation, and seeing what other people have and what is available out there it seems impossible to have a carreer in this business. So many people have so much and they can't even get signed. Of cause, it's also talent but....

anyway, I'm counting on getting a rather simple, if possible, mastering tool which is enough in itself so I won't need additional reverb plugins etc.

No UAD? No Voxengo?

Can't vote. :(

Then just write it here, the reasons are important too!

Post

can`t vote, too, but because another fact :
mastering is so different, it depends so hard on the material you actually master, that there is allways another need to it.
so basically one cannot tell whats best because there is no best. it depends on what you need at a time. there is no overall-best application in all needs.
the mix of different, specialized components is the way to go imo ...

Can't vote. No:

Voxengo or Sonalksis

Best value for money is Voxengo. Just get soniformer 2, Gliss EQ or the soon to be released HarmonicEQ, polysquasher and elephant. That's all you need IMHO for doing some serious mastering.

Cheers!
