This is a kind of update to a thread I was involved in a couple of weeks ago. I can't find that one so I made a new one. Anyway, I was having a very hard time mapping controllers from my keyboard to knobs and faders in Cubase. Well, I've made some progress here. I got up early this morning and decided to give it yet another try with a fresh mind. I see that when you map some controls to faders and press apply, the connection is made and the control works immediately without leaving the Dialogue window. Others won't show a response until you leave the dialogue window and try the control. This may have been a large hendrance to understanding and setting this stuff up before because if you see one controller work while you're still inside the Dialogue box, then you expect that they will all work in the same way. As soon as you see that the mapping didn't work, you assume that it's not working, but if you leave the dialogue window, you may find that it did indeed work. Anyway, I'm still trying to figure out in detail how this all works so I can have success 100% of the time. I'm also finding that if a couple of attempts at mapping controls don't work, it seems that nothing works after that. If you close the file and open a new one, then things begin to work again. Anyway you look at it, it's very messy and a far cry from what you find in other sequencers. I'll have to take this bad with what I do find to be good about Cubase SL. I'm still overall more satisfied with it than the alternatives. If I figure anything else out, I'll post it up.
