After having Sonik Synth 2 for almost a month, I have to say it has a great set of sounds! I like the quality and variety of the sounds, and the way you can put your own stamp on them. I feel like I have a vintage keyboard collection, that would never fit into the space I have. It's been a great addition to my set up, one I wouldn't be without.

the enthusiasm of the users, both pro and amateur, was definitely a selling point for me
and the more I read, the more I saw that this was an honest labor of love
no regrets here

(Totally Off Topic SEC plug - but he started it!)
Actually, I think we both need to watch out for South Carolina next year. I can't imagine why though!

The weather is amazing here at the moment.harmony gardens wrote:Going great here Squids, thanks for asking!! We sure could use some spring weather in Wisconsin! I'm still loving SS2!Squids wrote:How's it harmonizing now in the garden?
I've been using SS2 myself quite a bit lately. I noticed that with such a massive set of sounds it is almost overwhelming when you are looking for a particular thing (especially a certain synth sound). To find a good piano is easy but to find a certain squary Lyle Mays synth lead forget it. I must have forgotten to just put "Lyle Mays" as one of the keywords!
It's best to save a combi of your multi-timbral set up for your song along with your song for a number of reasons. But the main reason would be so it remembers your settings. There seems to be some issues with volume resetting when you just save your song and reopen in Cubase. But, nothing you can't work around such as with that tip about saving the combi. It's good anyway if you ever want to play it on another machine. Saving the raw standard midi file and the combi patch can allow you to open that song on another machine even running another host. I experimented with this the other day.
Anyway, I'm loving Sonik Synth 2. It's the first go to piece in my set up and I have a ton of stuff. It's compact! But, I still look at it as thousands of starting points. Each song needs its own tweaking. That's how it should be really. But, I am going to do a bank of new sounds that are flashy for Sonik Synth 2 just to give it that extra icing on the cake.

yeah everyday gets better with sonik synth 2 for me. i was excited to get a new video project to work on this week for the sole purpose that i can develop some sounds in sonik synth 2 for animations. im just doing special effects and this synth is perfect for that job especially(aside from soundtrack composition which it is also smoking for).
this one involves manequins in a factory, but some of my other options were to do things like robots fighting high tech battles and sonik 2 could add a lot for those projects too.
not to mention that im finally cranking out new sounding tunes and not reusing certain sounds that i have been overdoing for a few years. sonic synth 1 had a lot of variety in it but i had a bad habit of picking the same patches and not applying unique processing to those sounds.
sonik synth 2 is a godsend. i think people will find great use in using this synth for collaborations. steinberg's Rocket networks never took off and i think this was due to the Universal Sound Bank sounding like tin cans. if they had sonik synth 2 in there the idea could takeoff again.

Thanks Dave! I was looking for those.I've been using SS2 myself quite a bit lately. But, I finally found it in the "synthetic elements" folder (check that one out guys... it's full of some gems even if they are dry starting points).
Cheers,

I think I know why this would occur.Squids wrote:There seems to be some issues with volume resetting when you just save your song and reopen in Cubase.
In the track inspector, you have to make sure the volume and pan are set to "Off" (double click the number and type in "-1"). That way, Cubase won't send any volume or pan data to the plugin. That way you can set the value in the plugin, and it won't be reset.
Forever,
Kim.
