Hello,

Can anyone give me some examples of what energy XT can do for me? I know that's a bit broad but I tried the demo and didn't really get it.

I already have a host and lots of synths, is there something I'm missing?

I'm curious as it seems to have a strong following and I would hate to be missing out on something awesome that may make my tunes listenable... :)

I bought it for one reason. To be able to use ERA in Ableton Live, since Live in itself doesn't support MIDI-out from plugs. I found that it has a decent sampler as well. Apart from that - I'm where you are...
Electronic Rhythm and Melody since 2002

i found the XT webstie to be rather vague...

then eXT will add a modular VST / MIDI / audio environment to your sequencer ... allowing you to hook up modular constructions and save and call them up as 'presets' ...

erm okay, and that means? sorry for being thick.

(for example, imaginations really is the limit)

- instrument stacks (say, 6 Synth1s with dual detuned saw oscs for xtra cheese :P)

- the above with arpeggiators and chorders (on a totally different level than Cubase's mfx)

- fx chains (ok, might not sound so special but imagine inventing the CypherOne Mutilator chain and only need to call up 1 eXT & 1 preset instead of 8 plugins and their presets... and be still left with all the other fx slots of your mixer)

- eXT loads all the difficult VSTis trouble-free

- the sampler is pretty good

FWIW, I'd never go back to Cubase after some time with eXT & Tracktion. I do MIDI "composing" in eXT's sequencer (Standalone version), export to WAV's and mix & arrange in Tracktion. I couldn't imagine a better workflow for me.

Modularity... As I understood it (haven't tried myself, have to acknowledge) eXT lets you connect anything to everything in any way you like it as opposed to a pre-fab wiring structure.

Regular hosts provide a VST effect insert slot on each track, and one slot on the master bus. And thats how it is then in that host. In a modular host the structure is not set. You gain more freedom how you wire everything together. So doing sends, grouping, splitting & combining should be much easier.

okay I get what you're all saying (I think)

If I was to download the demo, could someone maybe put up a diagram of something cool that I could not otherwise achieve? I have all the usual synths - z3ta+, albino etc.

I would never leave cubase for sequencing, but the fx chain options in XT is pretty cool. Not to mention, XT opens quick, so it's nice for trying out new vst's. It's pretty cheap and does come in handy. That being said, I could live without it. Just, the slug I am, glad I don't have to.

forgot, one of my biggest uses is when I want to use Reaktor, thus it shows up in Cubase as XT, and only takes up one mixer space.

thanks Hans, that should help. Just need some time to play now....time machine anyone?
