It doesnt really apply for me at the moment.. I dont have a decent pair of monitors to hear what im mastering (actually I dont have any monitors) nor do I have the set of skills to master properly.

so I'd love to join this "no no this is better" thread with my own "no no this is better" but it just doesnt apply..

i just went to a premiere mastering house in LA (Black Eyed Peas, Christina Aguilera etc.) and they are using Wavelab now and have their proprietary Sadie drives stacked in a room in order to bring up old sessions. the engineer said most studios are ditching the older super $ proprietary systems - wavelab being among the most popular replacements.
It's not even a pro app. Real Mastering studios use something like SADiE or Pyramix or similar.

What about trying your own advices ?Forever Sun wrote: Don't spread rumours but say what you know. It serves everyone better.
Sell WaveLab for $10.000 and people like you will call it a PRO app.
Thanks for the entertainment though
P.S.: Senior Master Engineers, Audio Magazines etc, Must be really amateurs to praise Wavelab, ask them to stop spreading rumours that WL is a reliable tool to master on a professional level

In samplitude you can have unlimited FX on the master channel.. how about 20 comps and 20 eqs in a row?RAYA wrote:But if you want to eq>comp>limit, for example, you have to do one efx at the time?or you can set several efx simultaneously in real time?
Cheers!

Anyone particularly against Har-Bal? Or have any information to why it's not as good?
Because the price($95) is pretty attractive if it's enough or close to being enough to have that as the only mastering tool.

Yes - I think that idea is a problem.Seus Hawkins wrote:Har-Bal...as the only mastering tool.
I have Har-Bal myself, it is an EQ with a type of parametric (with shelves) interface that applies cumulative spline EQ.
If you only use EQ during mastering then this would be one of your EQ tools.
If you also use visual spectrum tools like the one in Har-Bal and you want to be able to adjust the averaging of the spectrum then you would probably use the RTA Voxengo SPAN analyzer along with an aprametric EQ. In certain cases where there is a lot of space in the music you might find that the Har-Bal averaging for its' spectrum is not specific enough - too smooth in other words.

mastering is a (sometimes) complicated step to do.
but again: in adjusting levels and with EQ-ing you can get really far!
and again: read some tips at:

Har-Bal has totally failed to impress me. IMHO it's mediocre at best. You get much better results with a combination of voxengo plugins. For newbie to mastering/frequency balancing and in situations with bad monitors/accoustics har-bal might be a last resort but only then.

Vintag Warmer is a great tool.I use it in a mix, often on individual instruments. Sometimes I use it to warm up a master.
Ozone is a very powerful beast though. I've compared it to Logic's multi pressor etc, and it's 100 times better. There are lots of presets to get you started with Ozone, although it is very intuitively laid out.
Are you using Mac or PC?

#1) Everyone seems to recommend whatever they've purchased. =) I wonder how many people have experience using multiple softwares in depth? Those would seem to be the most useful replies.
#2) I have found HAR-BAL to be right in line with how I like to work. It allows you to use your ears to adjust your EQ (nothing is "automagic") - yet you can still see a spline averaging of other tracks to compare what you're doing. Seems to be the best of both worlds.
The reason I would recommend Har-Bal over other similar products is because you're not locked to a small plugin window. It runs as its own app so you can go full screen and really see what you're doing without constantly zooming in and zooming out. In addition, the interface for editing seems to be really nice. You can do fine edits to the EQ spline or wide edits. It's all fast and easy and wonderful.
To me it feels like a "killer app" - mostly because it seems to get the job done while providing a REALLY nice interface. (And by NICE I mean BIG, FULL SCREEN if you like.)
And yes, this software would just be for your EQ adjustments... http://www.har-bal.com
