HI

I also Agree.

Although I beg to differ on the level to which I concur.

Flipper.

A sincere and thoughtful remark.

I guess I'll never see eye to eye with the mixer people:

1. For hopefully but probably not the last time, it NEEDS to be said-- a visual reference for your levels means almost nothing, because different frequencies will be more 'present' than others anyhow. Your ears are the ONLY thing to think about. Level indicators are only useful for seeing if something is WAY out of wack, which T's level meter can already do, at a glance.

2. What do you mean about a visual reference for EQ? I don't see many hosts offering much of an "EQ" view, unless you mean a simple 3-band parametric with knobs turned a certain way. That's not much of a visual reference, and I don't use 3-band parametric anyhow.

3. Why would you need to expand your tracks one at a time? Just set them all to the same height and have done with it. There are just as many problems monitoring things like submixes on a 'traditional GUI mixer' (why IS there even such a tradition? Why accept hardware's limitations?) also, so it's not like there's a perfect solution in THAT world, either.

4. If you REALLY want a visual reference, you can use something like VB striptool or other similar 'mixers' and put them on your submix channels.

I don't know. I think we'll never be able to see eye to eye on this one, but I can't help but feel that the majority of the traditional mixer people haven't really tried mixing down a song in Tracktion yet and have dismissed it before doing so. Yes, there ARE people who have tested it, but it's pretty hard to deny that the majority of users are more likely to be people who looked, didn't see a mixer, got scared (or confused, or flustered that the 'familiar' wasn't present) and just said, "f**k this, it makes no sense" without actually giving it a go.

Yeah I agree with you. If you use the built in Tracktion EQ it shows the whole curve right on the icon, you dont even have to click on it. Thats a much better reference than dinky little knobs. Plus Tracktion's EQ is a 4 band parametric.

Don't worry.

Different strokes for different folks and all that.

Mixing on a Mixer is what I like (call me old-fashioned).

That doesn't mean I think Tracktion is bad, just not the right app for me.

Cheers for the smile that gave me, Andy, you old-fashioned bastard. ;)

As a recent Tracktion convert, all I can say is: Brilliant! Brilliant! And Brilliant! Lunch Money is on the money.

I am finally mixing like I used to pre-DAW. I use my ears...Waaay more fun. When I mix with an analog board, I listen and make adjustments. I don't line up the faders so they look all lined up. Didn't ever look at the mixer anyhow, unless there were too many red blinky lights. (Can you really have too many?) For me, real mixers are a tactile thing, virtual mixers, even with a touchscreen, are not much better than internet dentistry.

I entered the tiny visual metaphor world of DAW faux-mixers and started to get all anal about 'seeing' the levels. Is the best that software can do is a jagged edge pictogram of hardware? What the DAW world needs now is a better metaphor. And I finally found it. Tracktion's interface is pure genius and a delight to use.

I ain't ever going back to the intangible, untouchable, barely-mouseable mixed-up mixer metaphor no more, no way, no thanks.

I have some wishlists for T2, but I've been happier with T1 than version 5 of anything else.
