Izotope Vinyl is a great lo-fi plug in, am i right?

But the record warp simulation doesn't work in my host (Cubase SX2). Which hosts does it work under and what is the best way to simulate the effect using other plug-ins? Presumably some kind of automatable pitchshifter? Has anyone here successfully achieved this effect?

Post

so no one's experienced the warp control either working or not working?

Under VST it is impossible to do the warp (according to the manual/website)
To use the WARP, you have to load it as DX ; you'll notice the button on the slider is gone under VST while it is present under DX.

Hard to read those smallprint of a plugin, ain't it

why would anyone want to do this again? Sorry but I still don't get the vinyl lofi thing. :P

There is nothing more technically advanced then recording at 24 bit and 96 kHz and then add some LoFi to it.

OK, just kidding :D

OK just wondering. I suppose I had enough years of listening to noisy vinyl and now really love clean digital sound. It doesn't have to be sterile sounding though but adding dirt and wow strikes me as odd. Don't mind me. There are lots of things I don't get about music these days...

actually you can make things sound older without the scratch and pops ;)

I like it as an effect... like a crackly album starting off, but then the real (clean) song should take over.

Even that has become a bit of a cliche, though.

I'd certainly never use it on a full track unless the entire intention was to spoof an old record.

Yeah I suppose as a contrast it would be good. Though I do like the songs that Bebel Gilberto with it.

I have been loading it a DX yet still no warp function. Has anyone successfully used the warp function in Cubase?

I mainly use this plugin on piano parts to give them false rusticity. I just want to hear that warped record sound! Incidentally, what is the best real-time pitchshifter? Free would be good...

About the WARP in DX; right click on the place where the button should be, and activate it.

Or something like that, I forgot...

WARP in DX:

Note: Due to incompatibilities with some host apps, the warping feature is initially disabled. If you're using a compatible DirectX host app then you can enable it by right-clicking anywhere on the plugin and selecting “Bypass Warping”. If the Vinyl plugin produces a choppy sound when Warping is enabled, your host application may not support Warping. In this case, you should keep warping bypassed.

For Pro Tools, the Audio Suite (AS) plug-in always has Warping enabled, and the Real Time Audio Suite (RTAS) and HTDM versions always have Warping disabled because it is not supported by the format. The VST version always has Warping disabled because it is not supported by the format.
