How are compressors constructed?

I'm curious about how compressors are designed. Is it just a simple implementation of control engineering?

this should probably be moved to the DSP/Dev forum. nonetheless...
yes, a compressor is sort of an implementation of control engineering, but there is nothing simple about it. (unless you don't care how it sounds.

What is there in an implementation of a regular compressor which is gain based to be considered not simple ?citizenchunk wrote:this should probably be moved to the DSP/Dev forum. nonetheless...

Just a simple implementation of the compressor parameters isn't it ?

Don't get me wrong when I said "simple". I didn't mean that it's easy to create, I was just wondering if it uses the "basic" manouvers when controlling an input or are there very complex systems involved? I'm not saying control engineering is easy :/citizenchunk wrote:this should probably be moved to the DSP/Dev forum. nonetheless...
