Is there an EQ that does this?...

I struggle with balancing a mix so that each channel sits right where it should be...I think some of it is lack of experience in mixing but also I beleive there is a real art to this.

Having said this, is there/should there be an EQ that can analyze say, five individual channels and based on certain styles of music, suggest or adjust the frequency of each channel so they don't fight for space in the overall mix?

Am I lazy?...ya a little when it comes to mixing...it's just not my thing, but I still want my songs to sound good. Perhaps Aleksey can answer this...he seems to be the king of EQ. 8)

thoughts/opinions??? :)

You are kind of lazy if you expect the equalizer to do the work for you. :) You might want to check out Voxengo's CurveEQ, since it can analyze an audio track or song and automatically adjust the EQ to make your song have the same frequency balance. This doesn't work all that well though, since ideally the song should have the same mix of instruments and be in the same key. GlissEQ lets you overlay the spectrum analysis of many other tracks so that you can EQ one track while considering the spectrum analysis of several others. This is a great feature, and makes things like mixing bassdrums with basses pretty easy and visual.

I'd use GlissEQ for carving a little real estate or try this one from Wide Boy that does dynamic carving, Space Boy:

I'm still working with it myself so I can't say how it sounds yet.

Kinda my point.... I think there are more lazy bastards like myself in this forum too! :D

But hey, if someone makes something like this, I will give them money!

I don't think the Voxengo stuff you described does quite exactly what I am suggesting but thanks for the reply.

I've seen Space Boy and quite haven't figured it out yet either but I think this is getting close to what I am imagining.(takes 2 tracks like a bass drum and a bass sound and gives them room to breath in a mix) I'm thinking along the lines of more tracks and suggested settings, comparison frequency graphs for each channel so you can see them in close proximity to one another, processer efficient and all in a sexy GUI....for god's sake is that too much to ask! :D

I'm looking for one that can do this

I fear I may never find it :help:

SpaceBoy and GlissEQ is a good combination.
Wormhole detection in SpaceBoy is 1a! to find the right frequencies to tweak.

I haven't used the new wormhole feature yet, but even just the non-wormhole components of Space Boy are the shizznit.

Actually, I've been meaning to post a new thread-- I've bought a few of the Elevayta plugs and haven't really used them to their full potential because I couldn't seem to 'concentrate' on reading the manual on a video display.

Printed them off as hardcopies the other day, read them and realized how clear and easy to read they are (I wonder why the video monitor was such a mental block for me?) and now it's time to unleash the full power.

FreEQ Boy is another tool that may or may not prove useful for you-- Space Boy is the one that does what you're asking, but FreEQ Boy can allow a vast array of EQ options that will help you accomplish the same thing.

Space Boy + FreEQ Boy = $24 of frequency manipulation bliss.

I should do that and I will eventually..but as i said before, I'm not real excited about mixing in the first place, so if it's not right there for me, i struggle. I tend to gravitate towards software that is very intuitive.

I will give the Elevayta stuff another try as it probably is the closest thing to what I need (and the price is right) but it would be nice to have an all-in-one plug that would point me in the general direction everytime until I can make things work by ear alone. Maybe I'm dreamin. :)
