Inspired by the Tacktion startup time thread I thought I'd bring this up. I notice eXT uses a different system and rather than scanning all plugins at startup it seems to wait till you right click to insert a plugin and scroll to the instruments (or whatever you call it) folder. While this is good in that it means it always starts up quickly (and it's my observation that startup VST scanns often contributes towards instability with hosts) it does mean that if I've just put in a load of new presets or something it takes a while for the menu to load up as it scans those too for some reason.
So would it be possible to give us an option to turn off automatic scanning unless we add a new plugin please and do it manually? ALso maybe a more intelligent scan that ignores non vst files would be useful (sometimes it tries to load non vst dll's that are in the vst folder and it obviously scans every file - presets and all)

Yes, I've had this happen lots of times. Bring up the root menu and make the mistake of hovering over "File..." and you can go make a new pot of coffee while eXT scans your entire HD.nors wrote:yes i agree and also for files scaning...'sometimes it tooks more than 3 minutes when i right click in the main \ click on File.

As far as I can tell, the "fix" for this is to select "Folder..." once the menu starts working again and select a default folder for XT to work with (where you store your projects and presets etc.). After that XT should only look through that folder instead of the whole drive.
Hope that helps.

you can always drag and drop dll's from your vst folder into ext, so that it manages more efficient the vst's without scanning.
usually cubase scans pretty quick (though i would prefer ext's system of managing vst's), but sometimes it's a pain in the ass and scanning vst's becomes a long and painful process.
btw, how can i turn off vst scanning when cubase initializes?
