I have been trying to record audio through fl studio but when I do, I also record the output of what is being played. To clear this up, when I play what I have recorded, I hear myself and the fl output. I've looked but can't find any information regarding this. Shouldn't my audio track only be the audio that is coming through the mic? What do you think the problem might be?

Thanks for listening,
Justin

Hmm sounds like you are recording your input coming through the master channel in the mixer. Did you try setting up a channel with nothing else on it in the mixer?
Sorry if you have done that already, its just I really dont know what you have going on, on your end.

this may be a repeat of what traumatek said....but make sure you are not recording the master channel (the channel you are recording is the one that is highlighted when you hit record, it has an orange "lit" floppy disk icon at the bottom right). Instead choose an empty fx channel, pick your input at the lower left, and then record. If you want to hear some fx on your audio, route your recording channel to another channel and add fx there (or on a send channel).

I was recording through the master channel. I just checked the fltutorials web page and recording audio tutorial. I don't see that it says anything about selecting different channels.
This site has helped me with my fl issues.
Thanks alot.

Well, it's a great site...lots of downloads...tips, help.
I find it a little intimidating to post messages because I find I'm still suffering from lite newbiesm.

OK alright that clears a long-standing misunderstanding that has kept me from recording in FLS since they implemented audio record.

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.
