Not that the world needs another filter plug, but if the filter on their synth is any idnication, this one's a doozie!

Is anyone else as excited about this as I am?

The only info is the KVR news item, which you can see on the home page right now. Its not on their website yet.
Fabfilter has been talking about doing a filter plug for a while now. But as of right now, all the info that has been released is a name. But going on the quality of their 'One' synth, I'm excited about it.

This is some more info I got out of Fabfilter regarding Volcano:
I replied, asking for one more envelope (one for each filter) but as is, I'm drooling!Floris (Fabfilter) wrote:Hi Mark!
This is what I can tell you for now:
Volcano will have two filters with lowpass, highpass and bandpass settings, 12 dB and 24 dB options, different filter characteristics to choose from, two LFO's and a triggered EG for modulation purposes...
Any more whishes?
Cheers, Floris

Ooh, ask for a pole separation widget, and filter drive widget for each filter. And ability to assign LFO to not just cutoff, but resonance and other LFO's frequency. And multiple wave shapes for LFO. Actually, while we're at it, add a third LFO and have all LFOs independently routable to the above noted destinations. And add a third, global envelope, for doing auto-wah stuff. And add band-notch mode for filters. When the cutoff is modulated on band-notch, you can make some excellent phaser-type effects. And allow filters to be either serial or parallel.mjones4th wrote:I replied, asking for one more envelope (one for each filter) but as is, I'm drooling!Floris (Fabfilter) wrote:Hi Mark!

That's all I got, but with those features added to the quality sound of their filter, I would definitely be in line for this.
So m is short for Mark. I had always hoped it was Mister.
Cheers,

Well that's quite a bit, and I wouldn't be surprised if some of those features were already in there.shamann wrote: Ooh, ask for a pole separation widget, and filter drive widget for each filter. Anyhow, they have a forum on there site, where you can post your suggestions. Its under the Support link.
Fabfilter's approach is one of simplicity. Like it or not (I rather like it, but I wouldn't mind a little complexity either) they claim to put first emphasis on sound quality and second emphasis on feature set. That's all I got, but with those features added to the quality sound of their filter, I would definitely be in line for this.
I doubt they're the developers to ask for an all-dancing all-singing plug.
But for me, if it sounds good, it is good.
Mister will doSo m is short for Mark. I had always hoped it was Mister.

Didn't reFX announce plans to release a filter plugin? I wonder who will release theirs first.

I know, I know, and it is an admirable approach, but flexible modulation is a must for filter plugins I think, and some times developers forget that.mjones4th wrote:Fabfilter's approach is one of simplicity. The pole separation came to me from trying out the ImpOSCar demo, one of the features that really sets its filter apart.

Can you explain pole separation to me? Never encountered that term.shamann wrote:I know, I know, and it is an admirable approach, but flexible modulation is a must for filter plugins I think, and some times developers forget that.mjones4th wrote:Fabfilter's approach is one of simplicity. Well, I'm not a wizard at this, but basically the centre of a cutoff slope is a pole. A -12db filter is usually a 2-pole filter (-6db slope per octave per pole) while -24db is a 4-pole.mjones4th wrote:Can you explain pole separation to me? Never encountered that term.
In the architecture of a 2-pole filter, the poles are overlapped at the same point to make a steeper cutoff. With separation, you alter the steepness response of the cutoff slope by altering the overlap of each pole.
Hopefully a DSP guy will come along and fill in the holes.

It was sacked... Unless they've started it up again. They were discouraged by the low sales of their bitcrusher plug, although I think that's kinda misguided, as a good filter is more rare, useful, and worthy of paying for (bitcrushers aren't very hard to code..). The beta was released for free with no support somewhere. It was simply called "Filterbank." I don't have a url and am unsure if it's still available.d2j3w7w wrote:Didn't reFX announce plans to release a filter plugin? I wonder who will release theirs first.
Another filter, that's nice.
What would really wow me is a complete VA (like Albino, UA, or PS-1) with FF-One's technology. Judging from FabFilter's current rate of production, that might be a while. =(

They had posted a thread with a GUI preview at one point, which looked nice but was huge. Several punters complained about the GUI, and the next day the thread had been erased.d2j3w7w wrote: I think reFX started it up again, unless there was some news I missed after this thread...
Not sure how bad the complaining got, and not sure if it was enough to kill the project. I know the free Obertone plugins were pulled from Fellei's site after too many were complaining about his exciter plugin, he saw them as looking a gifthorse in the mouth, so to speak.
