kovacs, hosting companies with > 50k domains make me think about their service quality. I was working with Powweb which is as big as CrystalTech, and there were a lot of problems - MySql downtimes, too long page (php+mysql) generation times - a busy script could generate for 5 and more seconds, problems with incoming mail (only web-based form works seamlessly), slow downloads. That's probably what you get for a cheap shared server hosting.

If we pretend that GoDaddy has a good actual uptime and good Internet reachability/ping time, I cannot seem to find a better cost in any of the offered hosting solutions here. And if I ever decide to spend a grand for the whole year of hosting in advance, I may get an even lower price.
Aleksey, panicNow has been in this game longer than I, and with that kind of money he can probably set you up with a pretty cool package I would think for the quantity you want. I don't provide packages that big atm.

I really don't think your going in the right direction with GoDaddy - I mean you have not even started and having problems

Spe3D, PanicNow offers shared hosting as far as I can tell (i.e. not what I need). Knowing people in person is a good advisor, but how I know my needs will be met?

BTW, Ukrainian ISP blocking some website is nothing to worry about for me. In 'Sovdepia' we still have very paranoid webadmins since Internet solutions costs very much here in comparison to US. Having a dedicated server here myself with my traffic needs may cost me $1000 *per month*, and that will still be way worse solution than GoDaddy or any other US hosting provider as we do not have 4 GB backbone connections in the whole ex-USSR, AFAIK.

The only way to find out is to ask him direct Aleksey, email, I am pretty sure he will tell honestly if he can meet your requirements or not – keep in mind this is someone who has provided hosting for a while, managed vast arrays of data and I have never seen a bad word said about him.

So if he says it can be met = it will be – if not he will say so.

Dedicated is always better, always (make sure the spec is high, memory cpu etc) = you are in total control and you know what is on your own server – as long as people can get to it.

Peter

i do have dedicated servers, but its not cheep, and i run them for larger, unamed clients.

i wish it where cheeper, i really do. there is no money in hosting... i've been trying since 1997. i am happy now to break even.. i have these servers because i have IT clients i have always needed to host stuff for, so i decided it would be nice to offer hosting.. which i still enjoy doing.. i love looking at a linux command prompt, editing a httpd.conf.. i just love it
i am sick, i know.. :)

feel free to email me Aleksey @ support at panicnow dot net

:)

or go with audioshot, he seems to enjoy the sickness as much as i do :)

Crystaltech has a reputation for keeping few sites on each server, especially on the more expensive accounts. For the 2 and a half years I've been with them I've been singularly happy with their service. They are frankly awesome. I have very little downtime and my site sees some 10,000 unique sessions / 60,000 page impressions on average every day.

But I just wanted to come up with a recommendation for you. There are many good hosts out there, and many bad ones.

Should add that I used to run dedicated servers before I took all my business to Crystaltech. Lose lot less sleep over server issues now. :)

But they also offer dedicated servers, also managed dedicated servers, whatever you need. As with anything you pay for what you need...

kovacs, thanks... Unfortunately I have a feeling from your posts that I'm going to have problems with GoDaddy...

But to date, I've set up the server and already running two test websites (you may try accessing http://www.the-air.com/ ). The only problem I'm having is that e-mails I'm sending do not arrive to the recipient (though, I'm able to receive e-mails myself). But that should be a fixable problem I guess.

Another problem (a funny one) is that I do not know my root password. :)

'password' or 'pass' ??

VitaminD, that could be unacceptably funny.

Actually, I've overlooked something... The login is not 'root' after all. ;) What is left is that e-mail undelivery...

I love shell accounts. :) Reminds me '95, when I surfed web via text browser. Just hope this Daddy works as advertised. ;)
