The page quoted there does not really say it, but I think that it was Ginsberg who "reportly" said that it refered to the "beaten" generation, i.e. the ones who were beaten by the establishment. Ginsberg was himself one of the first bi-sexuals who openly admitted it and was labeled as an outcast for it.
yes, you're probably right about this - Ginsberg was much more 'in the media' and was the first of them to be considered something like 'a star' to the youth if I remember correctly... :)

b.t.w.: I can only highly recommend 'on the road' - it's a very entertaining book and it's really a wonder how 'fluent' it is considering that Keruoac always just wrote down rather quickly what came to his mind and apparetly never edited anything...

Oh contraire mjones - by your own logic - when I stated that you were a "moron" I was only referring to your specific behavior when trying to tell me what words should come out my mouth, when an appropriate and correct word had already been chosen. I did not call YOU a moron, only your ONE behavior (which I did not refer to exactly, but given context anyone could see it ... or must I spell everything out?) - therefore no ad- hominem -by your own logic

And on the topic of hypocrisy, can you see that the specific behavior of telling people what words they can use is such, for someone championing freedom of expression as you have in this thread? (Which BTW was again arguing against a point I did not make, thereby inferring that I had).

The point I'm pushing here is that it is beholden on a person when making a slurred remark about another person’s opinion/behavior to be very clear about what aspect of that opinion/behavior they’re addressing. i.e. YES, you must spell it out. Anything short of this strikes as an attack on the person and not the idea.

I should get hold of On the road. It should make good reading each time I get on a plane.

I haven't read it yet but Iguess that it might be a bit too weird for my taste - I should read it anyway though... :)

Here's a nice annecdote b.t.w.:

Burroughs and his wife lived on a farm in Mexico at that time - they swallowed a high ammount of certain pills every day - Burroughs was a very good shooter and he was very enamoured with guns and so one day at a party he planned to shot a glass from the head of his wife just for fun...
- it might have been a bit too much of the certain substance this time though. :?

indeed :D

@mjones4th - I also view the practice of answering hate and intolerance with more of the same as hypocritical as well; this behavior having been displayed throughout this thread by yourself and xoxos.

SHOOT THE BITCH AND WRITE A BOOK! THAT'S WHAT I DID
I'm not so sure anymore b.t.w. if it was the amphetamines for him as well - it might as well have been the alcohol - but at least his wife Joan was high on amphetamines when he shot her in the head - he later said it was the gun which shot to low... :?
