A guitar based band, a simple beat, a riff (it rocks),no solo and a short song. Always puts a smile on my face when I hear it on the radio... :D
My Sharona has a great solo in it!! Pretty long too.

My choice:

Private Eyes - Hall And Oates

A perfect pop song with the most memorable funky guitar licks! 8)
"Kiss", by Prince, also had some funky guitar work. I think it's a good example of a well-crafted pop song.

take care,

Thanks for being that up.

Prince----> The Most Beaultiful Girl In The World

The most perfect pop song for our mothers, grandmothers, wives, girlfriends, sister, & cousins to love.

Pop is a genre. :box:

If pop isn't a genre, in which genre do the groups/artists/bands in this thread belong? Abba - Disco, alright, but lots of these names can only be classified as pop.

Yes, "pop" derives from "popular", but that doesn't mean that all pop is popular or that all that is popular is pop. Like Indie (as in Indie-pop). Derives from "independent", but eventually it's just come to mean anything resembling music of a certain kind that used to be released on record companies that were independent of the big ones. Goth music has very little to do with tribes of Scandinavian ancestry who could never decide where to settle down.

Pop is a genre. Not easily defined, but you know it when you hear it.

On the subject of bubblegum:

Annie - Chewing Gum.

Fairly perfect and very proud to be pop, bubblegum and all.

Ah...

That David Bowie song with the spooky beach video and the early 80s visual effects where he calls Major Tom a junkie)
Does anyone knw the title :?:
The song's structure is amaaazing

Some others I can think of offhand -

My Bird Performs - XTC

Everything counts - Depeche Mode

Daft Punk - Digital Love (title???) on "Discovery"

and many others …
