What do you think about CD distribution?
I can't host so big files, but I could provide some CDs with the zipped files, requesting only CD & shipping expenses.
Contact the original owner of the files, and see what he says – I would not distribute CD’s unless you have it in writing that its ok to do so.

That’s all I can advise on CD distribution

Just to clear this up too :) (the extra 's' for audioshot)

I am AudioShots - and the Host AudioShot.

I am probably uploading tonight. I'm going to make an attempt at emailing Matt about his file to let him know where it's being shared.

CD distribution is questionable. The license states that you're allowed to share it with others, as long as the entire files stay in tact. CD distribution would require charging people for it, even if it's only shipping and supplies. I don't want to risk that. Matt has made this available as a good gesture, and I don't want to abuse that.

I will post here as soon as I get the ok from Spe3D and when it's ready! Stay tuned!

Bit Torrent, perhaps?
Wait... loot _then_ burn? D'oh!

Post

The problem with Bit Torrent is that not everyone knows what it is how how to use it. And alot of people don't like it. The way we have chosen will probably work the best. Thanks for all the suggestions guys.

Spe3d, any idea on how many Gb a month this would need for hosting? (We've an account with about 25Gb/mo or so spare.) I guess I could knock up a bit of PERL to track and withdrawn the file if the limit was hit, though...

Post

A file of this size, and as popular as it will be, will use 25 gigs in a couple of days, thats my guess. (I have clients on other servers that can use this much in a week on a couple of 50MB files) Its all about demand – if its unknown it would just sit there.

Thanks - not worth my effort in coding the limiter, then.

Nope! Unless you managed the file uptake too.

My wife suggested we stop renting the telly and rent a dedicated server instead. 500Gb/mo. She also suggested a limited number of single-use passwords to get the file... Easier to code, certainly. (And allows adding on a "buy the bandwidth" option...)

I'm getting the file zipped to load later on tonight hopefully. Sorry, but had some things come up last night.

Kool, I emailed Mats Helgesson some time ago to thank him for his excellent drum samples. He replied some time later, saying he'd been away in the military. (I didn't get the impression that info was to be treated as a personal secret.) So it might take a while for any response to your email -- but it's not because he's uninterested! :-) He's away, serving Sweden. Splendid fellow, superb sounds.

Thanks for the heads up. I will at least drop him a message saying where I'm sharing it, so if for some reason he reads it, and objects, he can let me know. But as I said, the license does allow sharing. And since it takes the load off his server(which is down anyway), I'm sure he won't mind. But again, thanks for letting me know, as I probably would have wondered!

From what I remember, Mats has even been asking for a server to mirror the file(s) for quite a while, but nobody seemed to be able to at that moment.
Of course it's pretty much likely that such a patch would dramatically increase the used bandwith of any server.

I allready have this piano (haven't played with it too much, seems to be really nice though), but let's all bow to Spe3d for this generous offer.
