Hello....i am new to this forum and I'm very upset right now cause I have been completely screwed twice now with this problem.

I'm running Tracktion v.1.5.1.9 with a Mackie XD-2 and have been using a pair of condensers. What happens is somewhere in the middle of a session, (or concert!) the signal going into tracktion will turn into digital noise and the only way to get it back to normal is to stop recordingm, uncheck the "treat as stereo pair" and then re-check it.....

in order to fix this i thought it might have something to do with latency so I was adjusting that and it made no difference, then i was attempting to adjust the "time adjust" and this seemed to make the whole program lockup and I eventually had to re-install tracktion to get it to run at all again!

could either of these issues have anything to do with ASIO? or anything else anyone might know from experience. i am very hesitant to use tracktion for live concerts right now cause of this and i have a whole bunch of gigs lined up in the next few days....help would be AWESOME!

How long can you record for, before you get digital noise?
Perhaps it might be that Traktion is recording into RAM instead of to hard disk, and that you eventually run out of RAM?

In any case, Traktion although an easy-to-use entry-level sequencer is NOT designed for serious recording. Even if you find someway to get it working, you would be VERY foolish to use it for a live gig.

You are much better off in paying the dosh and getting WaveLab, SoundForge or Audacity. SawStudio is another good choice for a professional.

It has not really been consistent....I would have to say roughly 30 minutes after i start receiving a signal it abruptly turns to noise.....although it has happened at other points to.

i am recording to hard disk, not ram. i received this program with the mackie XD-2 and was using SAW pro before this for all my live recording. I think the GUI is much better and it's editing tools are more intuitive and easier to use....

anyways, although tracktion is not a top level pro software, you'd think it could record a simple stereo pair of mics and 24/41 without much trouble!

any other ideas would be appreciated....i have just updated to version 1.6 right now and re-installed....everything works for now....now that it doesn't matter.....

Just in case version 1.6 hasn't solved the problem, you should get better answers from one of the freaks posting in here:

thanks....i posted a link to this thread over there....hopefully they will have more specific info.

sounds like you don't care for tracktion very much? :P

Traktion is actually the easiest sequencer I've ever used, and although I'm used to Sonar, am waiting for T2 to come out. I may be tempted! :)

My 'freaks' comment was a sly dig at some Traktion users' fanatacism. :hihi:

Maybe its down to USB issues. Quite a lot of people get problems with it and audio. One solution is to power the unit from its own PSU (if it has one) or try another USB card or hub. Also check power save setting in the USB setup on Windows.

i have USB 1.1 and figured this may be a problem, however, i am running it as the only USB device so it should be ok technically. And the Mackie XD-2 has it's own power supply so that can't be it.

the 2 problems, i will list again more clearly...

1. I have had intermitent problem with the signal turning into digital noise (all of it....without warning) abruptly and then not being able to get a signal back without stoping, unarming the track, and restarting....even then it has done this again in a few minutes.

2. in attempts to fix this i adjusted the latency and raised it, then i tried to use the "time adjust" feature and it said that it was getting very inconsistent delay from my signal when i did the test. after i tried turing off the ASIO or adjusting that again, the program locked and after 5-6 reboots would not open again until i got home and re-installed.
now it works ok again.....haven't been able to recreate the first issue, but the locking up has happened again and i had to re-install a second time late last night.....very dissapointing....

I googled and came up with this dont know if it will help :In 96kHz Out mode, there may be intermittent bursts of noise on playback when set to 88.2kHzsampling rate :

I wish superprotoolsuser would weigh in on this.

P.S. I use Tracktion for live recording all the time. It has never crashed once.

Repeat: NOT ONCE.

I still rekon you have a USB issue ( I dont mean 1.1 Vs 2) . They are a bitch to diagnose and hard to fix as some devices only work properly with certain chipsets. Try the device on another Pc to make sure its ok. Then try to work out whats different about your setup. Another possibilty : if your pc has other programs on it - they may interact and cause issues. SP2 for windows XP and virus checkers or having tweaked with windows can be the cause of some things. I wish you luck in locating the problem. Some setups only work properly if set up for audio only with no other programs and no internet access or network cards on them.
