So true. Someone once asked Larry Crane (of Tape op, Jackpot studios, etc) how he got such a great drum sound on a record he engineered. You don't need that much to get the 'Hook sound'. Just about any decent chorus pedal will do the trick. Hook plays with a pick; slapping and all that other crap is out. Well, except on 'Perfect Kiss'; you can watch the video to see the intro bass part. Oh, and play high up on the neck: you're playing leads, not thumping out root notes.
