Books or tutorials on music production?

Thanks guys. Now I can watch Putte's tutorials while I wait for the books to arrive after which I am sure I will become an instant genius.
As for a college course ... I've been thinking about that. I already have a Bachelor of music performance but that was finished 13 years ago...all we had back then was a Mac Classic with some notation software!
But ooo I remember the Moog in the recording studio...

SoundOnSound offers an e-subscription. Is it worth the money? I already subscribe to CM and usually buy FM, but SOS usually has too much hardware reviews.
Perhaps an e-sub might be the thing to read the more production-oriented stuff?

I think the "Dance Music Manual" to be an excellent resource for most musical production needs. Mastering, mixing, effects, synthesis etc.
Of course, I might be most useful if you are actually trying to do modern dance music, but I think it has enough content for almost everyone.
It is not an "easy read for the complete beginner" type of book. Rather it is quite technical and tries to teach complex subjects - but that is a point in it's favor, IMHO.
