Hi 'Tick,
Hope this isn't too arcane for the general forum, but I couldn't find this info on either the site or any of my Rhino docs: can you tell me what the resolution / precision of tuning is in Rhino?
I want to recommend the synth to someone, but they seem very insistent on quite precise tunings. Some synths have a more coarse resolution, 1 or 2 cents, but I'm wondering how close to a frequency Rhino actually gets.
Cheers,
envoy

Hmmm, actually I'm not a microtuning expert. The extended .tun format used in Rhino was specified by Anamark and is supported by most microtuning synths out there. The information you're looking for may be hidden in Mark's specifications, available here.

The format itself allows microtuning resolutions which are better than 0.000000001 cents (which is far beyond the resolution of the best human ears!) - if the synth supports such a high resolution. AnaMark does, but I don't know, how microtuning is implemented in other synths.Big Tick wrote:The extended .tun format used in Rhino was specified by Anamark and is supported by most microtuning synths out there.

Well the Rhino microtuning code is based on your example implementation, so it should be about the same

Gentlemen,
Thanks - I knew the Anamark standard pretty well, just didn't know if somewhere between the file format/code and the implementation one might have lost resolution. I also created a couple tuning files last night that gave me a pretty good indication of the tuning implementation. Looks like we're good to go, and thanks for supporting this less-than-widespread feature!
