I wish someone would make a VZ or CZ VSTi clone... I mean a propper clone, not just some 'approximation'.
None of the Phase Distortion VSTi's I've seen have pitch envolopes, let alone 8 stage ones! And the CZ had some of the fastest envelopes, fantastic for bass and percussion sounds.
I've said it before, I'd love to have a virtual CZ101 front panel with which I could tweak with the mouse.
Mr. 'Synth Edit' McLintock was supposed to be releasing something called the PD 5000 which got me all excited
But it failed to materialise
(his freeware PD303 btw is a great little plug, but frustrating/teasing cos its so basic!
)
I know this is a VZ thread but I have no experience with iPD, a form of synthesis which I am told did not appeal to the masses due to its alleged complexity compared to its CZ forebarer.
The VZ line was pulled completely in 1990 along with Casio's presence in the Hi-Tech misical instrument market...

digital's eight envelopes can have up to 32points and can be routed to just about everythingTux wrote:I wish someone would make a VZ or CZ VSTi clone... I mean a propper clone, not just some 'approximation'.

I realy like the VZ, but I have too many complex beasts to care for...PHOBIE wrote: maybe because nobody likes to programm them?
@Marcus
PlastiCZ ... bad joke for a hardcore CZ user like me, only 1/4 of the synthesis functions a real CZ has to offer...

It would be nice to see a casio vz-1 for a change in a vst version. I don't know how complicated it is to really make one using SynthEdit but I think one has to make a special custom made oscillator before doing anything else. VZ is still my favorate out of all.

As someone already posted, these are BAD approximations of the real things. Haviong programmed extensively a CZ5000, and owning a VZ-10M myself, I can tell.vista wrote:---

The envelopes are one of the most important things of the synthesis engine, and we cannot recreate those synths with common ADSR envelopes. Besides, the waves are very idisincratic (there is a site on the Net that explains them very well).
All in all, I also would love to have a CZ/VZ VSTi, but close to the real thing (eventually with the possibility of mixing the two synth engines, as Arturia did with the Prophet V).

I am the owner of a VZ8m and I love all things Casio, so hopefully I have a rough idea of the sound of these things..
If you are after something that can give some of the VZ tones but which is NOT programmed in the same way, give SuperRing a little listen, It uses multiple interactive ring-mod lines and it can sound like a little like the VZ some of the time. Apert from that there isn't an accurate VZ emulation and, until the love affair with Subtractive VAs is over, there is unlikely to be one..

So what about Digital then (which I already mentioned in this thread)?

Didin' knew about Digital. Guess I have to download the demo and give it a try. It's not an emulation of the CZ, though (and even less of the VZ) but seems interesting, and, beased on the description in KVR, seems like we could emulate somehow the synth circuit of the CZ in it.jens wrote:So what about Digital then (which I already mentioned in this thread)?fmr wrote: As someone already posted, these are BAD approximations of the real things. nope, it isn't - Jon never does conventional emulations - he always goes way beyond thatfmr wrote:.It's not an emulation of the CZ, though (and even less of the VZ)
at least in some regards Digital is much more powerful than the Casios
that's what I think as well...but seems interesting, and, beased on the description in KVR, seems like we could emulate somehow the synth circuit of the CZ in it.

It would be nice to see a vst version of the casio vz-1 if they'll ever come out with one. We all hear that an FM capable of sounding simular to an iPD (casio vz-1) in some cases but maybe not identical sounding in most cases and they sound rather different from each other to my ears. For me I think I like the way the vz-1 sounds and its more you can do with it than what others didn't realize. Sad thing that it wasn't as popular as the DX7.

Sinthecyza 2.x = CZ emulation
- never was and never will be.
